The Reality of Far North Fishing (When the Bite Shuts Down)
Hello and welcome to Basic Fishing from New Zealand.
This is Part 3 of our long-overdue Far North fishing series from earlier in the year, where I was joined by Liam for a few days of fishing and exploring around Northland.
After some good fishing earlier in the trip, we headed back to Houhora Harbour expecting another good session.
Instead, the fishing had changed.
The bite had slowed right down, and we had to work hard to find some action. Just because you’re fishing in the remote Far North of New Zealand doesn’t mean the fish are always going to be there waiting for you.
We spent the session trying different areas, continuing to fish and seeing if we could work out where the fish had gone. Eventually we did manage to get into some action, with kahawai, trevally and snapper making an appearance.
It wasn’t the easiest session, but that’s the reality of fishing. Conditions change, fish move, and sometimes you have to put in the work for every bite.
That’s also what makes fishing trips like this worthwhile. You don’t always know how the day is going to turn out, and sometimes the harder sessions end up being the ones you remember.
This is another relaxed and down-to-earth fishing adventure from Basic Fishing, showing the good days as well as the tougher days that come with exploring New Zealand’s Far North.
Thanks for watching Part 3 of the Far North series, and I hope you enjoy the fishing.
