A few weeks ago, I was fishing an 8-foot-deep, tidal, navigable bayou in the South Louisiana marsh when I was approached by someone who ordered me to leave. I politely declined, and published a video of the confrontation.
Then, on a trip I took last week, the police stopped me to question me about the situation.
Check out the video for all the details!

People make me sick. Stupidest fang rules.
Riparian rights?
NEVER talk to the cops. Period. They don't know the law.
It's the law that's the settler of what's legal. I have the same issues with people in Florida.
Retired surveyor. The cop has no idea what he's talking about. You would be amazed what is classified as navigable.
If you have to work that hard to determine whether or not something is private property, and still no clear answer…big waste of time over nothing. Did the deputy not say that he was only concerned with someone in their pond while hunting but was ok with it any other time? He wasn’t near the pond so what’s the problem?
If it can be navigated by boat then it's public water.
I didn't know pigs can swim
Landowner/leasee – " We definitely going to make an example out of you " … Sounds like a threat to me..
Never talk to cops.
ANY cop asks me ANY question:
"I don't answer questions."
Guy drives a boat thru the canal then states it’s not navigable no common sense there
Guy drives a boat thru the canal then states it’s not navigable no common sense there
i dont know why they stopped you its vary clear and cut and dry you can be in that water you can't be in the land but the water they can't stop you , also why do you have a freshwater trolling motor appears you spend time in brackish water
i am in SC, there are people that think they own the water around their docks and think they can control you from fishing there.
There are many areas where duck hunters and fishermen have to use the honor system on not interfering with one Another. But no one owns public waters.Gotta work with one another.
The 'authorities' are happy to question a person fishing but rarely investigate water quality issues especially by corporates that maximise profits at the expense of the environment. Am I the only person that notices dirty drain discharge – it appears the bigger the business the more the 'authorities' look away.
So basically the cops are just enforcers for the land owners. They don't know the law they just do what they're told by the ones with the most money 🤑. My neighbor owns land on both sides of the highway so I guess according to Louisiana he also owns the highway and has the say of who can use the highway and when. 😂
Hi, Donald from Vermont. Irene, not the same thing, but during both season. I've got written permission to hunt here with about. Some Karen comes down and tells me. I can't hurt her dear oh.
So I kept hunting. She comes down harass me again. I called the game warns like everything else. They don't show up.I still haunted nothing she can do about it
It is about courtesy you're exactly right but there's being courteous and being pushed around. We cannot back down and be courteous every time or we'll never win a dispute. Everyone could've played nicely and everyone could've won. They can duck hunt and you can fish, no reason for any of this. But everyone has to realize everyone's rights
The Police is wrong about that!!!
You're trying to push legal standing and they're just asking for a little courtesy and for you to be a good neighbor. You're being a jerk in a very passive aggressive way IMHO.
Effin cops! They represent the safety of the public, not an A-hole land owner!
You don't own the navigable waters. Period. End of story.
Here in Oregon and I imagine in some other states, it's a violation of law to attempt to exclude someone from a public area by claiming that it is private.
People need to stop trying to own God's resources. Next, they'll claim the rain. Never give your name unless you get the others guys name too.
When people get that upset about people being near their property, they're usually drug dealers or child smugglers.
Tell them to call Game Warden
calm rational polite police. where i come from, private property ends at the high tide mark.
the cops know you were in the right or they would have done more than just talk.
Respect, man. Thank you for standing up to the rights for the rest of us. You just earned a subscribe.
How many law enforcement agencies do we need on the water ?
Should file a complaint against them for harassment of a fisherman.
If I was the Landowner I would revoke my lessee's lease ASAP based on his initial interaction running up on someone in that manner. He now has constructive knowledge his lessee is a hot head idiot. This type of absurd confrontational attitude will meet someone whose fuse isn't so long as Todd Mason's and it is going to get someone killed out there on the Bayou.
Well if you own it I'll be checking if you pay taxes on it.
Sheriff's fishing for revenue 😂.
The law enforcement officers were acting very professional ,but keep in mind they knew the incident was filmed. There chat was being filmed by a youtuber with 50k subscribers. Might of gone a little different if it was joe shmo just saying.
what an idiot
Why do you go and fish in the gray areas? Is that the hot spot 🤔
Never give cops any of your info if u have not committed a crime.
They Picked up your "Yankee" Accent … and called the "Good Ol' Boys" they grew up with (on the Police Force)… and said HARRASS THAT YANKEE ASSHOLE… They were alot more polite than when I got kicked out (Forcibly) from other LEGAL fishing areas. YOU were 100% Legal NATIONALLY! This is Common Knowledge… except in the Deep South.😵💫
I'm not trying to be a D but U R a D! Never ends!
I own property on two sides of a street. I have to strongly assume that I don't also own the street.
