A couple of days ago, I was out and the bass were chasing shad. The top waters I threw were a buzzbait and a spook, but couldn't get them to hit. I didn't try the popper, which after listening, the water clarity would've fallen into the popper category.
Today about an hour before dark the bass started blowing up on the shad. I threw squarebills and lipless crankbaits, jerkbaits and flukes and just about every shad pattern I could think of with no luck. I put on a kvd 2.5 wake bait in gizzard shad and caught a Largemouth next to a rusted out metal dock on the way back to the launch just slow waking it. I'll be sure to use more topwater lures from now on! Thanks for the tip!
Now That Was A Good One Randy !! I Had To Play This Video 6 Times To Really Get All The Info. Man Take A Breath. LOL
Just got off my favorite smallmouth lake. Oct 18th. Catching them at 40 feet deep on ned rigs.
I’m fishing 70 degree water with clarity of 3-4 feet. I’m also taking your advice with me to the lake tomorrow. Thanks partner!
They might work in the south or mid-south states, but I can't buy a hit on a topwater bait in October in Michigan!
Thank you Randy, great information!
