The Hardest Way to Fish a Texas Rig – Bass Fishing

It can be very hard to slow down when fishing a Texas rig, or any bass fishing lure for that matter. Fishing very very slow catches big bass but it takes patience.

  1. Goin on memory here sooo… Back in the late 70's, I read an article (prolly in B.A.S.S. Magazine) about a guy in south Ga. (I think) that had caught over 1000 Bass OVER 10 LBS.! His "secret?" Fishing a Big, T Rigged (10" or bigger) BLACK worm. (Prolly Mann's Jelly Worm at the time) that he BARELY MOVED AT ALL! I took this to heart & in the early 80's, I created (yep, I'm stickin to that!!) A way to rig a night crawler that was retrieved slower than slow and caught my PB. A 14 1/2 lb. Monster from a decent sized farm "pond" in Henry Co. Ga. I had caught a 7 & 1/2 pounder from this same lake the year before. The biggun coulda eatin it for breakfast!! My point? The NetMaster… (Damn, he can whip that thing out can't he?!!) Uh… Sorry! The Flukemaster is absolutely right. SLOW! PATIENCE! = MONSTERS! (Love ur vids Gene! Believe me. I'm a regular!)

  2. Need to get back to fishing this way. Spend too much time power fishing and then throwing senkos. Used to drag around black power worms exclusively and break that up with slow rolling a spinner bait. Those were always effective.

  3. When I first started texas rig fishing years ago this is how I thought it was supposed to be done. After doing more research I thought that I was doing it wrong all this time. Good to know that I was just hunting for the big ones from the beginning! Ha

  4. Tried this method out using a Texas rig and using a jig, and I caught a 2 lb, 4 lb, 5 lb, and 7 lb bass within 2 and a half hours. Granted the area/water conditions had a lot to do with it too, but still great stuff.

  5. I have a question. On your worm you are using do you recommend using just a regular worm or one with the tail? I notice the one you have here is just a regular worm. Just curiosity as to your opinion on the two different types, same length but the two types. Thanks enjoy the videos!

  6. ive been trying so hard this year , gave up the wacky and went to texas rigs .. but man no luck yet .. we fish very over weeded pond and the wacky just get hung up all the time .. but ill take any tips for overly weeded pond on a texas rig .

  7. This is how I have always fished Texas rig's and it definitely pays off. I've kinda always enjoyed the slow retrieve because it gives me time to enjoy the environment and get lost in thought.
