I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

  1. I cannot afford all of them 🤷‍♂️. I just bought the Killer Bluegill, it has the silver/white belly of the white frog and the frog color of the others. Thank you

  2. Nice info.
Although my thoughts are different when throwing frogs during the early mornings and late evenings.
I like white at night(no full moon). Imo, when you hold a bass up looking at it at night, the white stands out more. Allowing bass to track it better.
During the day with a sun, the silhouette of black frog up against the sun stands out more. But I'll change it up with other variables like water color.

Love your videos and one of my top 3 fishing educational channels.

  3. Great tips on frogs! I have at least 20 different colors and have caught fish on just about all of them. However, the larger fish have been caught on the more basic colors you mentioned.

  4. I keep my frog colors very simple- black, white, and chartreus. I think I could get by with just these three but- I do like the spro red ear that has that weird school bus yellow belly on it. There seems to be certain times when they really respond to that color for some reason.

  5. I save money and still catch fish by using a similar color system for most categories of bait. I have white, black, green pumpkin, and something crazy like chartreuse, fire tigr, or bubblegum, etc. That keeps me covered a lot of the time. Its not perfect, but its a good starting point.

  6. Got to be the most fun way to catch them ……. I have a dedicated frog rod in the boat all the time ….. great info, will help my frog game

  7. Thanks, but isn't "..a fish’s-eye view looking up at lures at the surface in bright conditions reveals all colors look the same, dark in silhouette…". Like, there are many scientific articles about this topic.

  8. I love the frog bite, but I don't get much opportunity to fish it, do you ever throw the popper types or the ribbit types those are the ones I usually use, but maybe this next week I've got a guided fishing trip planned for the big G & I maybe get to use one!👍

  9. I love frog fishing so much it can be my Achilles heel. I get so into it, its hard for me to put it down an fish something else when the bite is slow

  10. 🍺In my opinion throwing frogs, rats, ducklings, birds, etc into cheese, pads, thick grasses etc. is more about it’s the best and only bait you can sometimes fish and less about color🤠. I will usually fish a white bottom with blue skys and a dark bottom when white clouds are present.
It’s about contrast when looking up for me. 🤔Different sized frogs is more key then colors as well in my opinion. I like to use a body color that shows up well against the cover I’m fishing for me to see 😎my bait location more so then the fish wanting a certain color. Like Matt says just a few colors should work. My picks are in 5th,10th,35th,and 51st. I challenge my self to only pick an angler once per season. I have saved Taku and the Johnston brothers for the upcoming smallmouth tournament and Matt Stefan for the title event.🍺

  11. Great video! Absolutely love throwing a frog. Black has always been my go-to. I typically use that or a gill pattern. I need to get some white options added to my box as well. One of my new favorite Spro colors is Freak. Its a mostly black bottom with some yellow and it has a bright yellow top. It makes it easy to see if they miss it. I had a solid day this week because I was able to leave it after they missed but didn't set the hook and they got it the 2nd time.

  12. Aren't you ever going to put up that coat ? Just messing with you.! I'm not far from Lake Erie and am looking at my coat wondering that about myself ! Been catching them on the mini strike king white spinner bait. I'll give it a few more weeks for the frog.

  13. I have 4 of the colors you showed may have to pick up the pink one for special bodies of water. Killer Gill is my all around go to color for clearer bodies of water. I like using a popping frog about 90% of the time, it's confidence thing for me .

  14. Colors for a topwater is a very interesting subject for me (as is colors for baits in general, but you already know my thoughts on that 😉) But I've always heard that the only colors on a frog that matter are the ones on the belly since that's all the fish is ever going to see. Is that something you go with as well?

  15. Always love to see a Stefan video. Since your sponsored by Berkley, I would love to see your favorite hard and soft baits in their line up. I’m a big fan of their fusion hooks and would love to know which lures you’d recommend
