I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for six MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

  1. When I was about 14 fishing with my dad in his bass club one of the older gentleman told me. It’s going to rain today pick up a buzz bait and throw it all day. I did and won the tournament along with BF. 40 years later I still throw a buzz bait in the rain! Good Advice

  2. I fished in 40 mph winds and rain. Really had to use English to get my bait where I wanted it. The bass were hitting really hard. They seemed to like the double willow bladed silver and gold with a white head and skirt. I like to fish in all kinds of weather. 100 degree days to 40 degrees. The more wind the better. The spinnerbait and KVD 1.5 square bill in sexy Shad. Produce more for me. Than any other baits by far. 3rd Senkos Texas rigged. You choose the color. Been fishing since I was five years old. In every kind of weather you can think of. Learn to adjust to your environment. Shawn.

  3. yes i like to fish in the rain as well, out west on steep lakes it gives a mud line ,run off ,and the bass stays just out side it. real good fishing for bigger fish. thanks for that info matt.

  4. I just fished in a very similar situation and i tried all of those and never got a sniff. I had to switch to a tx rigged weightless senko fished on the edge of the grass to get bit. Do you think the lightning and thunder shut em off that much that something just floating down very slowly was something they couldnt really pass up

  5. I don’t especially enjoy fishing in the rain, but I’ve had some good days doing it when I needed to. Gold blade spinner baits have worked well for me.

  6. I watched your video the night before going out for a rainy day fishing trip. Great timing by the way. Put a black and yellow frog on a buzz bait and caught a half dozen small mouth and a decent size pike. Thanks for sharing your experience and I look forward to your daily video's.

  7. I love fishing in the rain and a spinnerbait is one of my go-to lures for sure. I've had some success with loud walking baits in the rain but I don't think I've ever tried a buzz bait. I'll remember to give it a shot the next time I'm out in the rain. Thanks and Happy 4th!

  8. Hey Matt I like a double bladed buzz bait in the rain more action easier for the fish to track appreciate the tip would have made a comment earlier but I was out Trying your swim bait video tips they work appreciate it. 🙏

  9. I agree completely … any type of topwater for that matter. Along with the spinnerbait, I'd also go with bladed jig. Seems like the first couple options worked so well, I never tried a lipless much, but makes complete sense. Really enjoying the content ….it would only be better, with a fresh supply of Bridgford jerky!

  10. I have always done will throwing a spinnerbait in rain. I also have done well throwing a 4 inch grub chartreuse with a black core Mister Twister on an 1/8 Oz jig head on spinning tackle. Throwing on the edges of grass flats. When you hit grass and rip it free that is when the strike comes.

  11. I thought for sure I was gonna crush em last weekend in the rain. I started throwing a buzzbait along the rip rap banks and got nothing. Next I tried both a Chatterbait and a spinnerbait but still couldn't find a bite. Turned out hopping a Texas rig and pitching around shallow cover was $$$. Ill have to try the buzz bait again the next time we get some rain. Another great video.

  12. I'll have to try the buzzbait. I usually use an inline bucktail with double black colorado blades, which does quite well. I love rain fishing…it's quiet and peaceful.

  13. Here’s a question I bet you’ve never had. If you could only use flouro for one type of bait / technique what would it be. Everything else you had to use braid or mono. The one bait you wouldn’t want to use without flouro. I’m guessing you’ll say deep cranking, a jerk bait or dropshot.
