My Profile:

I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for six MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
I would add a bright colored plastic swim bait to the list
I painted a Zara Spook to imitate a Red winged blackbird…just for rainy days…keep it secret.
Chatter bait too
I don’t even own a buzzbait lol will pick some up
Everytime I've caught fish in the rain it's always been on a mepps spinner, but totally excited to try these
What about cold temperatures and heavy rain? Would that turn of the bite?
I liked and got your 1k likes brother
Thanks for the tips.
The best nights running trot-lines are raining crappy weather nights.
My best big glide bait days came during late spring and summer storms. Yeah it was dumb to be out there,
When I was about 14 fishing with my dad in his bass club one of the older gentleman told me. It’s going to rain today pick up a buzz bait and throw it all day. I did and won the tournament along with BF. 40 years later I still throw a buzz bait in the rain! Good Advice
I fished in 40 mph winds and rain. Really had to use English to get my bait where I wanted it. The bass were hitting really hard. They seemed to like the double willow bladed silver and gold with a white head and skirt. I like to fish in all kinds of weather. 100 degree days to 40 degrees. The more wind the better. The spinnerbait and KVD 1.5 square bill in sexy Shad. Produce more for me. Than any other baits by far. 3rd Senkos Texas rigged. You choose the color. Been fishing since I was five years old. In every kind of weather you can think of. Learn to adjust to your environment. Shawn.
Thanks man!
I a wopper plopper not also just as effective in rain as a buzzbait?
I have to agree on the buzzbait. I do my best fishing with a buzzbait and/or a whopper plopper in steady rain. The bass and the pike destroy them!
I stop when it ⚡ going on as well
yes i like to fish in the rain as well, out west on steep lakes it gives a mud line ,run off ,and the bass stays just out side it. real good fishing for bigger fish. thanks for that info matt.
What if the lake you are on is very grassy and can’t throw a spinnerbait or a lipless?
Raining all day here, perfect timing!
I just fished in a very similar situation and i tried all of those and never got a sniff. I had to switch to a tx rigged weightless senko fished on the edge of the grass to get bit. Do you think the lightning and thunder shut em off that much that something just floating down very slowly was something they couldnt really pass up
Great stuff Matt. This confirms that a good day I had in the rain with a buzzbait that I thought was a fluke was definitely not.
Some of my best days have been in the rain
I don’t especially enjoy fishing in the rain, but I’ve had some good days doing it when I needed to. Gold blade spinner baits have worked well for me.
Subscribed! Really enjoy your stuff.
I love throwing a buzzbait but never thought to try it in the rain……Thanks for the tip!!
The first bait we throw on Ft.Loudoun in the rain is a big loud walking bait . Definitely throw a tandem Indiana blade spinnerbait as well #2👍👍
Never tried rattle bait in the rain buzzbaits are Dynamite thanks Matt from Ohio
Biggest fish I caught in a tournament was on a buzzbait in the rain.
Do these suggestions still apply in the heat of summer?
And I alway s though a spook was the bait. Now I’m breaking out the buzz!
I watched your video the night before going out for a rainy day fishing trip. Great timing by the way. Put a black and yellow frog on a buzz bait and caught a half dozen small mouth and a decent size pike. Thanks for sharing your experience and I look forward to your daily video's.
I have caught more bass on buzz baits than enything eles
I love fishing in the rain and a spinnerbait is one of my go-to lures for sure. I've had some success with loud walking baits in the rain but I don't think I've ever tried a buzz bait. I'll remember to give it a shot the next time I'm out in the rain. Thanks and Happy 4th!
Hey Matt I like a double bladed buzz bait in the rain more action easier for the fish to track appreciate the tip would have made a comment earlier but I was out Trying your swim bait video tips they work appreciate it. 🙏
I agree completely … any type of topwater for that matter. Along with the spinnerbait, I'd also go with bladed jig. Seems like the first couple options worked so well, I never tried a lipless much, but makes complete sense. Really enjoying the content ….it would only be better, with a fresh supply of Bridgford jerky!
I have always done will throwing a spinnerbait in rain. I also have done well throwing a 4 inch grub chartreuse with a black core Mister Twister on an 1/8 Oz jig head on spinning tackle. Throwing on the edges of grass flats. When you hit grass and rip it free that is when the strike comes.
Glad you talked about this .putting all that in memory blank caught some good ones today best 5. 13 pounds
I'll give it a try, thanks for the tip
I thought for sure I was gonna crush em last weekend in the rain. I started throwing a buzzbait along the rip rap banks and got nothing. Next I tried both a Chatterbait and a spinnerbait but still couldn't find a bite. Turned out hopping a Texas rig and pitching around shallow cover was $$$. Ill have to try the buzz bait again the next time we get some rain. Another great video.
I'll have to try the buzzbait. I usually use an inline bucktail with double black colorado blades, which does quite well. I love rain fishing…it's quiet and peaceful.
Love a buzz baits too
Love the warpig
Thanks so very much! I get so much from your channel!
Thanks for sharing these:-)
Here’s a question I bet you’ve never had. If you could only use flouro for one type of bait / technique what would it be. Everything else you had to use braid or mono. The one bait you wouldn’t want to use without flouro. I’m guessing you’ll say deep cranking, a jerk bait or dropshot.
Perfect timing! Its raining here today, was yesterday and is supposed to rain tomorrow too. I appreciate the video!
