Fall bass fishing can be really rewarding if you adjust to the seasonal behavior of the fish. Here’s a complete guide for bass fishing a new pond in fall:
🎣 1. Scout the Pond First
Before casting:
Walk the bank and look for signs of life: baitfish activity, surface disturbances, or cover (weeds, wood, rocks).
Note water clarity — it affects lure color choice.
Check temperature if you can; bass slow down as water drops below 55°F.
🍂 2. Understand Fall Bass Behavior
Baitfish follow the shallows in early to mid-fall, and bass chase them aggressively.
As temperatures keep dropping, bass move deeper and feed less often — especially during cold fronts.
In small ponds, “deep” may just mean the middle or areas with drop-offs, channels, or submerged brush.
