Look into boat buckles for the straps on the boat a lot easier and efficient
For striper in the colder weather (especially that deep, like 30-40ft) I like to vertical jig the bottom. I use a 1.5-2 oz jighead w/ a zman jerkshad (pretty much what you were using just heavier). It works great! I always use braid and flouro so I can feel the bounces on the bottom. Best of luck!!!
