  1. I switched to the Lews SD wide 5:1 from my tranx I also throw Hudds and glides which you need slower speeds plus a friend turned me on the Okuma guide series rods with a M tip which you should have. I use sunline #25 mono and their FX2 frogging and flipping braid and I couldn't be happier. Welcome to the addiction.

  2. Swimbait fishing is so addictive because you are targeting larger predators. I have a Shimano Tranx 301 HG 30lb Powerpro Braid and I use mine in both salt and fresh. This year I caught my 1st Murray Cod an 85cm freshwater fish in an impoundment in my kayak. May you have lots of memorable days using this gear.

  3. Kinda late, but I have the same Irod. Has a softer tip than some sb rods. I've thrown 6" huds with a tatula 200 reel. Love the rod, hopefully you did too.

  4. I fish 3.5 inch plastic swim baits all year round where i live. They do not have the exposed hooks as some do but belly weghted hook. For me my choice of rod is a 7 ft. 6 heavy action fast tip Carbonlite Rods from Bass Pro. It seems to take a lot of power to set the hook using a 4/0 hook. I seldom miss a fish using the set up.

  5. I got one of the 13 deft black rods for around $60 and its amazing especially for so cheap stands neck and neck with some of my pricey rods but was wondering if anyone had experience with the $80 swimbait version looks amamzing full foam grip and if its as good as the regular then i gotta get one also would a daiwa ct 100 be a good swimbait reel or the savage gear browser swimbait rod for the same price

  6. The Lew's bb1 pro! It's a good reel for caring heavier baits. I only throw up to an ounce on mine but it throws them well. Also check out Alex Rudd fishing. Here had good info on swim baits as well.
