This bass fishing video explains how to fish a swimbait. Matt uses a Huddleston Deluxe for the example but these basic retrieves can be used for every swimbait for bass or even saltwater species like Calico Bass.

Many bass fisherman are afraid to cast a swimbait. Their size is intimating and it makes it difficult for anglers to believe they can work. If you use these 3 simple retrieves you’ll gain confidence quickly and begin catching big bass on swimbaits sooner. Its not rocket science, any fisherman can do this. If you throw the bigger baits and stick to it, your turn to catch a monster bass will come sooner than you expect!

  1. Amazing video!!! Learn so much from you. Lately ive been using the 5 inch savage gear trout swimbait and got a damn solid 3 pounder! Thanks to you guys I learned two more ways to fish these types of giant swimbait!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

  2. I know that this is an old video and you guys have done a few Huddleston videos but what I would like to know is more about ROF and how you guys determine what ROF to use

  3. Good to see ya back Matt. Hey I live in Acampo Cal. right off the Mokelumne River. Lots of trout lots of bass. I was just given an broken in swim bait. Its paints gone where it wobbles. Im excited to toss this thing coming up September/October when the Salmon run. Should I just buy a new one or can I salvage it?

  4. Hey Matt and Tim, could you please give me a general rule of thumb in regards to what ROF to use for each depth? 5ft? 10ft? 15ft? In this instance I am talking about the slow creeping retrieve.

  5. What is your favorite all time 8” Huddleston Rod? I don’t think you’ve gone over the rods before. I’ve watched a ton of your swimbait videos I’ve just saw some basic over views but never a really specified rod

  6. I am just starting with big swimbaits so I been collecting assorted baits but, I am having trouble finding a reel I like. I bought a Hudd rod and I have an old garcia 6500C on it but casting is not what I like. I have been looking at the Diawa Lexa 400HD because of what I have been reading and watching on Youtube. I fish from the bank so I need castability and a deep spool so what I hear this is the one. Is it hype or the real deal? I am fishing (well not yet…health issues) for mainly Striper, Bass and Catfish. Is it worth 300 bucks?

  7. I was pre spawn fishing here in sandiego at lake poway .on 2/09/18 .was just going to see if the fish were moving up on beds.they rent electric bass boats ei . so I tied up a 8"live target Rainbow trout.and I slowed down to a crawl like you guys say.. all I felt was some weight on the end of my line and I was hooked up to 6 lb fat belly female .yep that was my first fish on a big trout imitation lure . I'm sold man .and got a few bites later and missed them but still feel confident in using this lure way more

  8. Great information.. with creeping the bait on the ground, the lake I fish at is very rocky.. I know for a fact if I drag it on the bottom I'm going to lose my Huddleston.. is losing expensive lure part of slow dragging it on the bottom?

  9. What’s the average depth to fish a six or eight inch swim bait? What depth do you guys usually see the most productivity from? It’s obvious they can be fished in 1 foot of water but is there a depth that says, you know, it’s just too deep and the bait cannot stay on bottom. Thanks for ur help!!

  10. Hi Matt how do you slow crawl a big swim baits in a weedy bottom as I told you before I fish off a marinas dock in my lake and what swim baits do you recommend for my style of Lake Allsop can I use a snap thanks robert
