My buddy from work how lives about a 20 minute drive from those small lakes (ponds) San Juan Lakes in Espanola, was just there on either Friday April 6th or Saturday the 7th and had shown me pics on Tuesday of the bass he caught there. 3 nice size ones. 2 that were about 2 and a half pounds and the other was close to 5 lbs. He also said there were a few people (including himself) that had their lines broken from a monster. He fought it for about 15 mins and couldn't land it…. then the line snapped. I think it is time for you to go back.. Fish on!!

Well, I know exactly where that pond is! I was just planning on trying it, too, but didn't think I'd even get a single cast off before getting kicked out! Too many…..ways….to get spotted LOL! I know you know what I mean! Sad, that it is such a great pond. Sorry, brother.
O-kay Oh-WIN-gae, if that helps pronunciation. Ya, I have fished it a lot. It is good for nice trout. There are definitely BIG bass in there. I haven't caught one, but I hadn't really tried at the time. I haven't seen too many people target them, though I have seen them pulled out off of nightcrawlers. I've never seen anybody cast a lure at them. I used to get into the lakes for $8 a day. I also bought a pass for very cheap to where they would punch it; but most of the times they didn't even bother, so it lasted all season! It used to be open daily, too. Now, the price has really gone up and it's only opened 3 or 4 days a week. I'm not at all saying it is a bad deal…. it just used to be an easier access. Great place to fish! The only thing I'm not too big on is that a lot of people who catch the bass, keep them. I'd be happier if they threw them back, but hey, that is absolutely their choice, not mine.
