Striped Bass Fishing: Near Death Experience on a Dangerous Jetty

This week we’re at the beach fishing for striped bass. Striper fishing here is dangerous, especially if you are jetty fishing. Striper fishing is one of the big game fish here in the Delaware Indian River Inlet. Sometimes to catch the big ones, you gotta go out on the Jetty but BEWARE. The Jetty has taken countless fishermens lives over the years. The waves come up and surprise you, they will sweep you off of our feet and take you out to sea.

This episode was recorded months ago. And seeing as Brendon has busted his knee up and cannot go fishing, we decided it would be a good time to share this story. Please use this video as a reminder to be safe. No fish is worth your life.

  1. as avid surf fisherman, I 'm REALLY curious to know why you do NOT prefer the VAN STAALS? they are fully sealed and you can fish with the comfort of NEVER HAVING TO SERVICE THEM

  2. Imagine being in a war on the Frontline plus surviving the best you can without getting shot and killed. I seen so much death that it does not effect me and I have absolutely no remorse anymore.

  3. I gave up fishing the rocks years ago. I fell one time but I got lucky, all I broke was my rod and got a few scrapes and bruises. You don’t even have to get hurt real bad, If you have waders on and the y fill with water, you’re dead. Those rocks don’t have a lot of give in them.

  4. I fell on a Jetty in early April laid upside down while having life threatning injuries for over 30 mins before a friend showed up and dragged me out my ER bill was $23,000 6 MONTHS LATER i'm still hurt and recovering. I stepped on a flat rock and it was like a trap door and catapulted me about 15 feet my whole right side was crushed. I f ii hit my head i would have been killed instantly.I could not shit, smile blow my nose or breath for over a month total nitemare .

  5. My grandfather used to see boats capsize in the inlet. I come here all the time and it can get pretty nasty out there. I typically fish on the patio behind the railing. Really good advice and good job explaining the slippery algae! You don't have to go out to the end to catch fish. Basic safety tips in your video go a long way.

  6. Me and group of friend almost lost our life jetty fishing in Massachusetts plum island jetty. Tied came in and took us out to sea just like the guy in the video. We were rescued by the coast guard. I will never do that again. Not worth it.

  7. I once fell back of my head first to an asphalt from a scooter. Prolly lead to a concussion but mom insists I'm okay. Terrible headache for like a week. Watching that man fell reminds me of that same pain in the head.

  8. Used to fish the jetty’s at night in the 70s ,I used to wear baseball spikes for traction on the rock and yes it is dangerous, number one rule don’t turn your back on the ocean, but night fishing on the full moon it was worth it ,used to catch 30 pounders.every month, blood worms for bait that I used to dig up that day ,it was all an experience but the fishing was great and I lived to tell my story, that was striper fishing a long time ago.!
