Big bass and shallow water! The pre-spawn is the perfect recipe for squarebill fishing! As the big ones move up a lot of the traditional patterns fade away in favor of high-speed reaction baits. The square bill is a perfect candidate for this style of fishing and today we’re making it so easy that anyone can fish them effectively.
There are only a couple of considerations that you as the angler need to make when selecting a square bill. Pay attention to sound (or lack of sound), size, and diving depth. Once you’ve made those simple selections all that’s left to do is cover water in search of those big pre-spawn bass.
We keep color selection very simple. Ideally you’ll want to fit baits into 4 categories. Craw (red), Ghost (see-through), Reflective (Chrome or scale pattern), and white. If you have baits in these 4 categories you’re prepared for 99% of the conditions you can face on the water.

Two years ago just about, I decided to buy a Lott Of new and used Jackal Askas and omg I never looked back, I had been using Strike King KVDs and Jesus Strike king stuff is so bad and mass produced materials compared to other companies.
Being on a healthy lake is way more important than any color lure you use.
Action of your lures is where it's at.

What is your hesitance with the Strike King line of Square Bills?
In Minnesota where there are decent but not huge bass would the size need to be more like the kvd 1.5 vs the magnum ?

I love these directional videos… however, i would LOVE to see a video on how to manage the colors while actually fishing! For example: watch me make 4 casts with this squarebill, but because of this, i switch to this other one, and wham i get bit… i find myself getting stuck with 1 bait for too long, not knowing when to change, and especially if i get 1 bite early, it's hard to leave that bait! HELP!
