Spring Bass Fishing Is Awesome! Exploring Lake Guntersville!

Today we’re dropping the boat into Lake Guntersville and going exploring! The guys have no clue what to expect, what the bass are doing, or where to begin. But it doesn’t take them long to start putting the pieces together! Watch as they figure out a pattern, and get big fish to bite!

Guntersville is one of the most famous fisheries in the world, but that doesn’t mean the bite is going to be easy. The guys weren’t sure where to start, so they tied on their confidence baits and started looking for that first bite. Every fish that bit provided a clue that let them put together the puzzle. By midday they caught a great limit, with a big kicker, and left an even bigger one behind!

Below you’ll find links to all the baits the guys used throughout the day, as well as the gear they used to fish them effectively. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

  1. I used to think 20 lb was like saltwater strength and there was NO way a bass, even a big one would break it unless it was rubbed raw. Between breaking off an S-waver on a backlash and seeing Tim snap 20 like it was thread on the hook set my mind is changed ( it has been but this was just more confirmation).

  2. I’ve been having an issue with breaking off a lot of bass on the hookset lately. 7 foot medium/fast Expride spinning rod with 10 pound Suffix 831 to a 10 pound Invisx leader. I was using 8 pound fluoro but after breaking off a few, I stepped up to 10 pound and still broke off a couple more. I will admit I tie a uni to uni knot for my leaders because it’s easier and faster to me than an Alberto and I wouldn’t even attempt an FG knot. When I reel the line back in after breaking off, I still have the knot there, it always breaks at the fluorocarbon side very close to the leader knot. What am I doing wrong? Am I swinging too hard? Is my drag too tight or is it something to do with my knot? I know it’s not bad line because I have that same 10 pound Invisx on my jerkbait rod and haven’t had any issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I saw one of the fish jump after breaking it off and it was a 5 or 6 pounder. Losing big bass is really tough to swallow!
