It’s a beautiful fall day for some kayak fishing, let’s go see if we can catch some pike!
Gear used on this trip:
Lure: Terminator Spinnerbait 3/8oz https://amzn.to/3SNzOe2
Trailer: Z-Man Minnowz https://amzn.to/47FajzW
Rod: St Croix Bass X 6’6″ MH F https://amzn.to/3PAz6iz
Reel: Daiwa Zillion SV TW G https://amzn.to/3PEchdT
Line: Power Pro Super Slick V2 30lb https://amzn.to/3NJ7jva
Leader: 50lb Daiwa J-Fluoro https://amzn.to/47jxRdA
Now I want to see you catch a pike on a McNugget! LOL
Spinnerbait is my go to lure up here in NY
What do you use as your connector, braid to fluorocarbon, knot?
What net are you using?
โTryโ for some pikeโฆ that made me chuckle. Those dudes are aggressive! Didnโt you get some on a duck lure a while ago?
Beautiful day for some pike fishing. How much you enjoy the fishing is half the fun of watching Matt. Love me some Terminator spinnerbaits for bass and pike.
Iโm interested I. Mattโs retrieve. Watching all of his videos it seems to be similar across seasons and even baits. Matt are you bouncing along the bottom and then giving your spinner bait a โhard flutterโ up off the bottom? Iโve noticed this seems to be your method for hard & soft swim baits as well?
Hey man, what size reel do you use on like a 6 ft medium rod? 2500, 3000? Thanks
You should drain that thumb…. lol
Wished we had those fish up here in Alberta . all we got left are small pike …
I see you still have the pedal kayak. I was wondering if you had returned it. You fished some lakes this Summer/Fall that I would have assumed you would have used it for. Is it more a matter of getting used to it or just being comfortable with what you always. used.
Is that Sweet Briar Lake?
Itโs been a nice time watching this video. Beautiful pike with those distinct markings on their flanks. Also interesting the knack of using a length of stiff fluorocarbon to prevent the spinnerbait from entangling with your line on the cast.
Highly recommend a trailer hook on a spinnerbait. Itโs taken me from about 50% hookup ratio like you said to near 100%. You can also increase the profile of the bait by putting your trailer worm or swimbait on the trailer hook instead of the main hook.
Nice fish! As always, appreciate your skill, you have the best fishing on the http://www..Hands down!
โคGreat day of fishing. What happened to your thumb?
Hey Matt do you wear thick socks on days when itโs really gonna be cold while fishing from you kayak? Just curious! Great video too man I really enjoy these videos!
10:22–10:30 is the same way I feel about their smaller cousin, the chain pickerel. I love fishing for chain pickerel during the fall, winter, and spring here in CT. The way they come darting out of structure and vegetation before slamming a jerkbait at the smaller waters I fish from shore get me pumped. They'll follow the lure all the way up to shore. Sometimes a more erratic retrieve will get those "slime darts" to easily hit.
There's one special spot at a pond I fish that has a tradition for pickerel to be stalking schools of small bluegills that hang around a submerged limb once the water has gotten warmer in early April. I'll sometimes see the bluegills all of a sudden scatter before coming back to the limb. That's when I know there's bound to be pickerel stalking them before darting in for the kill.
Oooo oooo, catfishing with McNuggets!!! You can do it!
Man that kayak gets to movin dont it
Thanks for another great video Matt.
You commented about trying to point your microphone away from the road noise – I'm pretty sure the GoPro mics are omni-directional which means both of the microphones that make up the unit are facing in all directions. You will pick up a stereo field no matter, but you can't effectively point these microphones away from something.
The sound is so much better. Thank you.
Killer!
Why do you use short rods?
Is peddling faster than using the oar?
Lately I have been kayak trolling on my to my spots with great success! Why waste one second of fishing time is what I say.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BassMang! ! ! ! ! (or PIKEMang in this instance๐)

thx so much for sharing bro, see ya on the next…
stay safe mang ..
buh bye ๐๐
Great video I always use a trailer hook on my spinners for pike and hook up rate goes way up with so many on the trailer only. Can still use the plastic too just add the hook after. 3/0 trailer hook seems best size
Honestly, please do not lie next time.
Another fantastic video!
I donโt throw spinner baits without a trailer hook! Super effective
Also I like the idea of heavy floro leader for the reason you said ๐๐ป
Nice thing about stained water,It warms up quicker
