HIGHLY requested tutorial on how I skip my Untamed Tackle Ace Jig.
I am not a very good teacher, but I tried my best to explain in detail a breakdown of my skipping technique.

This biggest difference maker that I've learned about skipping is,
keep your elbow tucked into your side! It's all in the wrist. If your arm is straightened out and your elbow isn't touching your side, you're probably backlashing.
Sir, could you please do a comparison of skipping jigs with a curado DC vs a standard baitcaster. This type comparison has not been done and it has never been addressed on you tube. Due to two totally different braking systems, people are confused about the ability of a DC reel to skip as good as a traditional baitcaster brake system.
Skipping is not easy- not for me anyway. The only trick I've found is to make a long cast, take some electrical tape and tape your line down on your spool- now if you blow it up, it only blows up to the tape and stops. Usually, you can get it out pretty quickly too- when there's not much line to blow up it doesn't make such a tangled mess. I hear the Curado DC is an excellent skipping reel- some ppl say it really helped them learn without blowing up so much. Here's the thing though- I love pitching and DC reels are notorious for not pitching very well. The DC sensor seems to get confused when you're not casting but pitching- it applies the brakes too often and too much. If you could turn the DC function off- I'd be all over it. Seems like a no brainer huh- can you turn it off? Does the reel work once the DC stuff has torn up? If it runs out of batteries- can you still use it? If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to see it- did it really fall? When I close my refrigerator door, does that little light really go off? Do those signs that say "slow men a work" mean those "slow kids at play" finally got a job?
Did you really say "a lot of people that fish aren't good with angles and numbers"? And why would that be smart guy? You trying to say that we're a bunch of dummies? I can't speak for everybody but I myself passed college level calculus with flying colors. And I'm sure that the majority of anglers out there know what a 17° angle is. But hey I really appreciate the condescending attitude.
Thanks brother. Awesome video
That was awesome
Awesome video Kyle!
Great tipps 💯
How many yards of floro do you go through while learning to skip, hitting docks and backlashing?
Great video Kyle… Nice camera work Ms. Hunter! 👍 Metanium reels don't fit in my budget too well 😥
Do you have any more budget friendly options that would work well for skipping? Thanks!
Great tips. God is good. God bless!
Shimano is missing out not paying you $$$
Kyle Welcher. The people’s champion. Thanks for hearing us and making this video. Super helpful.
Hey Kyle when you're skipping do you thumb the spool at all. Or just let it free spool. Thanks
Kyle you say set your reel up loose but I’m already having problems backlashing when skipping. What am I doing wrong?
Great video 📹 👍 Thank you
What reel you using?
kyle, as I watch this video, am making notes, comments. 1. 17° angle: is that rod to the water? how can you SHOW what a 17° angle LOOKS like? for instance: at 11:49 in the video, what part of that is 17°? 2. is there any advantage/disadvantage to line diameter? heavier lines vs lighter lines relative to spool depth on cast? know most of you tournament/southern anglers go way heavy on lines. really appreciate the videos you and hunter put together.
Nice job guys, I enjoyed that, just hearing Kyle’s thoughts an process an how he does it, definitely helpful for the next time I head back out an practice my skipp’n. keep up the grinding , I can’t wait for derby season to start again!!
Thanks. Good luck next year
Thanks for the skipping tutorial!! Little harder if a co-angler in back of boat seems I can't always get that correct angle. Stay Safe & God Bless!!
Great video !!!! GO TEAM WELCHER !!!
Noticed while you skipped you raised your rod during the process, does this help to keep the lure "light" on the water? Good video$$$
Great video Kyle, great tips. What rod do you use to fish the Carolina rig
Great video, can you say which lake you were fishing thanks
Thanks for doing this video Kyle; I was looking forward to it. A couple of quick questions please…How far ahead of you are you looking for that jig to make it's first contact in the water? Also, and I guess this varies with the bite that day…but are you feeling the fish hit the jig, or are you watching for the line to jump? Thanks as well, to Ms Hunter!
Great video
something i did when i started was peel off about 30 yds of line…put electrical tape across the spool…that way any backlashes only went to the tape….great video!!!!
Awesome video Kyle. Taught this old angler a thing or 12. 👍
Jacob Wheeler’s pitch skip is really a thing of beauty. I’m deadly with a spinning rod but I know it’s not practical. I know My reel was way too tight
One thing that helped me learning was to make a long cast , put a piece of electrical tape on the spool at the end of the cast and that way if you do backlash it doesnt get way down in the spool. So you spend more time practicing and less time picking out backlashes.
Great video… however I believe I requested you just come and show me how to do it!!! LOL One day I will be skipping jigs like rocks!
Awesome video !!!!!
Making a good cast then put a piece of tape on spool so no more line comes off helps w backlashing also
Great video definitely helpful
Hey buddy I just ordered a bunch of your ace jigs can’t wait to use I use a lot of bitsy and D&L jigs thanks for info
Great video Kyle!!! I’m still learning how to skip but this helps me to better connect the dots.
Been to a lake near my hometown in SW Ohio and they got chains hanging up under the docks… haha. Don't mean I didn't try to skip a frog up under there 🤣
You must of seen me yesterday struggling skipping docks this vid posted the day after .. good looking … very informative like always … awesome vid …
You always have great content, presented in way that are easy to understand. Thanks.
Thanks for the info bud. I try to keep in my mind to tickle the top of the water so that my initial contact won’t bomb my skip.
I wish someone would do a tutorial on skip pitching! Trying to teach myself is not working very well.
One drill that forces you to use your wrist is take a pack of worms and hold them your body with your elbow while you skip. If you drop the pack you are using more than your wrists.
Thanks for the vid.
Do you have a code for point blank? Just made my first rod this weekend. It’s a MHX from mudhole, but wantin to look at some more blanks for my next.
Great tips Kyle. I seem to get a bird nests when the form goes bad like you said about wild arms. And, don't know how you deal with it but a good chop on the water is a sucky day for skipping in my boat.
I noticed during your cast you pull the rod back in the opposite direction of your cast especially toward the end of your cast is this to help overcome the friction of the jig skipping and have the spool maintain the same speed to prevent backlash or is there another reason for doing this
Can I ask a question , my son wants to build rods what the better blanks out there to buy
