I loved your comment about the fish not being as smart as we give them credit for, I also use the VMC Neko but mine have the weedguard, yesterday I caught three using a senko. The weedguard doesn't scare them off at all.
We use a big-ish kahle style hook on wacky rigs too. I don't care for those itty bitty hooks. You don't need them. My father is the wacky king and has won a pile of local money on it. We started doing it in the 90's when the Sling Shot came out. I still can't touch his skill because he has figured out tricks that lies to even me about. I'm too ADD to fish it as much as him anyway. He will whip ass from the back of the boat or throw at my boat and laugh when he catches a bass under it. 12# big game is all he uses, and I have seen it matter on a number of occasions. I am talking him culling, and I don't have a fish until I go to the same line. People forget about the softness of mono allowing the lure to wiggle in a different way. Our other family secrete is using the smallest zip tie you can buy instead of an O ring. Everyone thinks it's stupid so they don't use them. Their loss.
