Shasta Lake Was Dead…Until I Tried This

Headed back out to Shasta Lake for another early fall trip, hoping to duplicate last week’s success. I launched and targeted the Squaw Arm, where things started out promising — 3 quick bass on topwater got the blood pumping.

But then… the bite completely shut down. For the next 4 hours, I threw just about everything in the box — crankbaits, jigs, worms, topwater — and couldn’t buy a bite.

I was close to calling it a day, but decided to grind it out a little longer and switched to a shaky head. That’s when the bite finally turned on! Landed 15 total, with a few close to 2 pounds, and salvaged a tough day into a solid fall session.

Sometimes, it’s not about big numbers or PBs — it’s about staying patient, trusting the process, and finding what works when nothing else does.

📍 Location: Shasta Lake, California
🎣 Baits: Berkley Choppo (topwater), Shaky Head (cleanup hero)
🕓 Season: Early Fall
