Secret Finesse Tips for Fall Bass Fishing!

In this video, I go over my secret tips for catching Largemouth Bass during the Fall! I don’t mind sharing my secrets because I want all of y’all to go out, catch fish and have fun! The best part is that you can use this technique for a large variety of species. Fish have a few important habits in common. I’ll list them below based on my experience.
First, they have to eat just like any animal. This means that no matter what species you are targeting, said species has to eat to survive. Once you understand this, it’s simply a matter of finding out what they “have” to eat. You can then narrow it down further and figure out what they prefer to eat and when. For example, when I target Common Carp, I know they are more likely to take a bit of corn on a small hook than a chunk of cut bait since they are herbivores. A Brown Trout on the other hand, is going to want an insect, bait fish, craw or a lure that resembles these things.
Second, the target species has to regulate its body temperature. They typically use the sun to do this, whether it be sitting in sun soaked weeds, timber or rocks. They have to stay around a certain temperature to live. If they get too hot or cold, they have trouble moving around to get food and they have a really difficult time digesting that food. Find the water that makes them most comfortable and you’ll find the fish!
Third, the wind is a big deal and I’ll argue that with anyone who thinks it doesn’t. I live by the old saying, “wind out of the East, fish eat the least. Wind out of the West, fish eat the best.” This has to do with pressure. The pressure that accompanies a wind out of the East will typically drive the fish deeper. This is fine if they are still eating (which isn’t normal) and you have electronics to find them. It’s not fine when the fish are deeper than usual, not eating and the wind remains the same for an entire weekend. On the opposite hand, a wind out of the West cause a much better pressure system and usually, not always, the bait is up and moving. This means the predatory fish are also up and moving and more likely to eat your lure.
Fourth, in most places that I’ve lived, whether it be the North (PA and OH) or the South (NC and VA) Bass key in on smaller bait. This isn’t to say you can’t throw a big old glide bait and catch fish. You certainly can and I’ve done that. What I’m saying is that I have had so much success throwing a smaller finesse lure to not only catch quantity, bit also quality, as seen in this video!
Get outside and catch some fish! I guarantee y’all tha even if you go out and catch a handful of buck Bass, you’ll feel much more accomplished than you would sitting at home watching other folks catch them.
