  1. Ive been fishing since I was 5, Im 51, and I've fished for every species under the sun, both saltwater and freshwater, ponds, and lakes, and perhaps you can direct me to one of your videos that may encompass this question.
Im a disabled veteran and I am unable to even buy a cheap 2500.00 boat, so I mainly bank fish, and it's def hard, but fun, do you have any tips on perhaps what to look for when I'm fishing..no fish finder, so it's all from eyesight, and what lures are good for spring Pre-Spawn?

by the way, love all your videos, keep them coming!!

  2. Hey Tyler, the first time I caught one of these fish I was on Lake Robinson in SC in October ‘23 and the water was extremely hot like upper 80s/low 90s. I’m a huge science person also I’m trying lay out every detail I remember.

  3. I have caught 1000's of smallmouth in the Columbia River over the decades and have not seen one of these yet. Would like to catch one of these blotchy bass just to see it and say i did.

  4. I'm 63 and I can tell you my buddy who works at home depot believes this happens when you got those live scope shooting them rays at the population of bass congregated in one area kind of like the Flux capacitor theory

  5. Caught a bunch of smallies with these spots this Fall in one particular location. I'd been wondering if it was contained to specific populations, so I could estimate movement of certain schools in my fishery. I take pics each time now in case it helps me identify the same fish later.

  6. The individuals I fish with have always figured it to be a coloration issue. Not a birth mark. We usually see it on small mouth in the clarion and allegeheny rivers. I'm sure it is found elsewhere, but these two rivers is where I see it the most commonly. Each fish caught appeared to be healthy and fought just as hard as any other fish .

  7. I've noticed that there are more black spotted bass some years than others. There were a lot more in the Susquehanna. In the Allehgheny, there are very few. I don't know that I ever see any black spots on smallies in the smaller rivers/creeks like French Creek or Oil Creek. I can't remem ever seeing any on largemouth

  8. I'm 62 years old and have been fishing since I was 7 and I will tell you that when I was young I never saw any of these fish with black spots so this is something that has developed over the years. I read an article a long time ago where the author theorized these spots were hormone imbalances in some fish and were triggered by "filtered sewage" that contained urine from women that were taking birth control pills (which work by altering hormone balances). The author theorized that some fish were more sensitive to these very diluted levels of birth control in our waterways and as time goes on the levels gradually rise and the number of spotted fish increased. This would explain this phenomenon progressing from nothing to what it is today, but the virus theory might make more sense because I seem to be seeing less of these black spotted fish now than say 5 or 10 years ago.

  9. I’m retired now and have been fishing over 65 years and I never saw these spots until the past 10 years or so,but, we all know what happens when our water ways get polluted and until we stand up against corporate polluters we will continue to see viruses and diseases in all fisheries and waters… I can’t believe more anglers , especially tournament anglers aren’t doing more to support the EPA and pay attention to who they are voting for….. many of these pollutered waters are making humans sick 🤢 I appreciate you discovering this information and clearing up the (“wive’s tales)😳😎👍👊🍀🎣🍀
