Saltwater fly fishing isn’t all that popular in the UK, but why is that? We have the locations for it; theres plenty of incredible estuaries and sheltered coastal marks which offer the perfect environment for this incredible sport. We have the fish too, Bass being the make target species, but theres lots more that will take a fly too, including mullet, wrasse, pollock, mackerel and sea trout.

To show how simple this style of fishing is, we join Jonny Stephenson in the Stour Estuary. Using a standard trout fishing setup, Jonny details what it takes to track down and catch bass in this utterly breathtaking environment. You would be forgiven for thinking we were in the Caribbean, with knee deep water, sun beaming and stunning scenery it was a joy to be out targeting bass.

As the day moved on, Jonny also showed how much fun a light lure setup can be too, with instant action.
