SABAA Opens / Recap For My Bass Fishing Season

My first season has come and gone. In the this video I give you a short recap on all eight tournaments I fished in the SABAA Opens for 2024 to 2025 season.

After months of prep for my first ever SABAA Opens season I was ready to bass fish in my first ever competition for divisinals.

First stop for my SABAA opens was held out at Loskop dam where I had an unfortunate thing happen in my family. I had a family member pass away a week before my first competition and the memorial service was held on the first day of competition at loskop. this resulted me in missing the competition and coming stone last and scoring zero points. Second day out at loskop dam was a full day of bass fishing for me and this resulted me in getting five keeper bass for the day. This gave me the opportunity in scoring scoring points and coming 11th place. This was a great result for me out at loskop Dam.

Second stop in my SABAA Opens was held at Witbank Dam where Dexter, Marnus and myself landed up pre fishing and testing the waters for up and coming tournament. Gauteng at this time was going through a draught and this resulted in water levels being low at Witbank Dam and all around the country. The water being so low made the fishing really tough on practice. Dexter, Marnus and myself fished alot of the dam to figure out a paten. The practice day wasn’t the most successful. Not really figuring out areas or baits that would work for tournament weekend. Confidence was low for tournament weekend, and I decided I would target areas that were alot deeper and more water to fish. Fishing the gorge as I like to do at Witbank Dam resulted me in getting two keeper bass one being winning bass for the first day out at Witbank Dam. Day two was just as difficult, making cast for cast in areas where I thought I might get a keeper bass didn’t work out and I didn’t get a single bass which was a keeper. I got zero points for day two out at Witbank Dam. This placed me in 21st for day two.

After our December break it was time to get ready for the dam I have wanted to fish for a long time. Albert Falls. Albert Falls is known for its big bass in South Africa. This was a tough decision for the club to fish it due to how difficult the bass fishing has been there for the last few months. The club decided to go and take the chance and fish it. First day was a very new experience for me, never had fished the dam and I went in blind even tho I had done research and my homework on Albert Falls. First day fishinf the dam was really tough for all anglers, some only catching one bass and some not even getting a single bite for the day. The two bass I had caught put me in 8th place over all for the day. Day two of Albert Falls was a little different for and I went in with alot more confidence having fished it the day before. I had a game plan to catch more bass and bigger bass. Going in knowing what I needed to do resulting me in catching three bass on day two placing in 6th place over all.

After a long drive back from Albert Falls I was in a accident which wrote off my Car and my boat needing alot of work to get it floating again. This didn’t get me down and i completed the last and final stop for SABAA event out at Rust De Winter Dam.

Rust De Winter was our last stop and Marnus was nice and let me join ship with him so I could complete the season strong. Day one on the other hand wasn’t good for me, Struggling to catch keeper bass and only getting two bass in box resulted me in coming second last for the first day out at Rust De Winter dam. Knowing that I needed to do better on day two I pulled up my socks and fished my heart out to get a better result. At the end of day 2 out at Rust De Winter I ended up with five bass and I managed to get a better result and more point on the board.

Me having gotten 0 point for thrree tournaments made me worry about qualifying for Interprovincial. Patiently waiting for the club to put together the overall point for the season so I could find out if I had qualified for the team.

Results where in and I had placed 15th overall in the club and this position had made me qualify for the team. This was a huge achievement for me as it had been my first time fishing in such a high league of bass angles. I was very proud of my self even though I went through some Highs and very lows throughout the season.

The Northern Cap SABAA opens is a great club filled with awesome people that accepted me with open arms and I am very thankful to be appart of such and awesome team.
