Roubidoux Creek Bass Fishing – 13 Aug 2026 | Fishing report
We changed things up for this trip and left the big boat at home. Instead, we took Billy’s Bass Buggy to Roubidoux Creek in Waynesville, Missouri, and fished a remarkably small piece of water.
The section we fished was only about 1,300 feet long and roughly 90 feet wide, with most of the water less than 3 feet deep. Despite the limited area and shallow water, it turned into a very productive morning.
We started fishing at 8:20 a.m. and wrapped up at 12:12 p.m., giving us 3 hours and 52 minutes on the water. During that time we caught 19 fish, with 8 keeper-size fish recorded. Our total weight for all 19 fish was 21.4 pounds, and our best five weighed 9.8 pounds.
The biggest fish of the trip weighed 2.78 pounds.
Conditions:
It was a hot, clear August morning. Air temperatures climbed from about 81°F to 96°F, with a southwest wind around 9 mph and gusts to 11 mph. The creek was slightly stained. We did not record a water temperature for this trip.
The Pattern:
This was about as simple a fishing pattern as you can get.
Almost every fish came from the bank in extremely shallow water. Of the 19 fish caught:
* 18 came from the bank
* 1 came from a laydown
The fish were spread throughout the small section of creek, but the action really picked up during the middle portion of the morning. From 10:16 to 10:49, we caught eight fish in about 33 minutes.
With only a few feet of water available, there wasn’t much searching for different depth zones. The fish were simply relating to the shoreline and whatever subtle cover or shade was available.
Baits:
Two colors of the same basic bait accounted for every fish:
5-inch Worm – Green Pumpkin Orange
* 16 fish
* 6 keepers
5-inch Worm – Bama Craw
* 3 fish
* 2 keepers
The Green Pumpkin Orange worm was clearly the workhorse, accounting for more than 80 percent of the fish caught. The Bama Craw didn’t produce nearly as many bites, but two of its three fish were keeper-size.
We also recorded one smallmouth bass, which added a little variety to the morning.

Total Fish: 19
Keepers: 8
Total Weight: 21.4 lbs
Best Five: 9.8 lbs
Big Fish: 2.78 lbs
For such a tiny stretch of water, Roubidoux Creek produced an impressive number of fish. There wasn’t any complicated offshore pattern, electronics strategy, or deep-water structure involved. We were fishing from a Bass Buggy in less than three feet of water, throwing 5-inch worms at the bank.
Sometimes simple works.
19 fish from roughly 1,300 feet of creek in less than four hours made for a pretty darn good morning.
