Pre-Tournament Bass Fishing on Lake Zoar

Final kayak fishing tournament of the year is right around the corner, and as luck would have it, we’re ending the season on my least favorite lake: Lake Zoar.

Lake Zoar isn’t bad per se, it’s just so busy. What you aren’t seeing in the video clips from this session is the constant boat traffic, noise, and all the little things that add an extra level of difficulty to fishing this body of water.

In addition to the regular boaters, this is also one of the heaviest-fished lakes in the area. There’s at least one (sometimes two) tournaments on Lake Zoar every single weekend during the summer, so the bass have been hammered and targeted heavily all year which will play a factor in our late season tournament next weekend.

From a standings perspective, I’m pretty much locked out of any post-season events and will likely end the year between 11th and 15th overall, just outside the top 10 for an invite to the big championship at Lake Champlain in October. But still, had a really fun year and learned a lot of different techniques and improved a bit as a fisherman, so hopefully I can come back next season with some upgraded gear and make a more concerted effort to finishing top 10!
