You seem like a nice guy, so let me apologize in advance… but that method you have of loosening the drag way down and then trying to tighten it up while the fish is running? Really?? You don't suppose that's why you 'fail' setting the hook on so many bites, do ya? I don't know 'who' you were with that taught you this… but I hope you guys didn't stay up late.
You don't really need to use a hook set if you use circle hooks

I wouldn't use treble hooks for powerbait. I usually use a #6 single hook and the stuff stays on fine. Makes it easier to remove the hook, and its better on the fish. Its also easier to use marshmallows with single hooks. I often use a marshmallow above my hook, and then a piece of red worm right below it. Great fish!!
