Post-Spawn May Bass Fishing In Iowa

The nice ones keep showing themselves!

As promised in my last video, I ventured to a local lake that I had not been too yet this year and was treated to a couple of good ones.

I go to the lake around 5 AM and set-up shop on my boat for a little bit while the sun started to come up. Once I could see where I was casting, I began slinging a spinnerbait for some shallow-water (maybe shad-spawn induced) bass. Once the sun came up, it got tough for a little bit. Bass were not on shallow cover, and the bigger ones were definitely somewhere else. I did end up finding a clump of trees in 17 feet of water that had some bass suspended over top of them. I caught three on a jerkbait doing that (and had a good one come off at the boat). It was not until 11:30 AM when I ran into the big one (a 4.69 Largemouth) on the jerkbait, which saved the limit for the day.

Still it was an awesome half day on the water that treated me with some nice fish. I am glad that I didn’t give up and kept fishing with my intuition!
