ONLY 6 BITES ALL DAY?! | NY Kayak Invitational – Lake Champlain

It all comes down to this… the final tournament of the year! The New York Kayak Invitational brought together the top 10 anglers from kayak fishing clubs across New York State to compete on Lake Champlain for the ultimate bragging rights: top club and top angler in the state!

I headed into this tournament with a solid game plan, but everything changed when conditions shifted dramatically just 24 hours before launch. Blue skies and high pressure made for an incredibly tough bite, and the smallmouth were proving difficult to trigger.

Things got off to a rough start when I broke off a big fish early in the day. With the pressure on and bites hard to come by, I had to regroup, keep covering water, and trust the game plan. I was seeing plenty of fish, including some big ones, but getting them to commit was another story.

By noon, I had managed to put together a solid limit, but I still needed one more big bite to make a serious run up the leaderboard. After a long, grind-it-out day, I finished with just 6 bites, landing 5 fish and securing a 6th-place finish against some of the best kayak anglers in New York!

It was a challenging way to close out the season, but a great finish to what has been a very successful year of tournament fishing.
