No Electronics Needed! Old School Bass Fishing!

Come along as we go bass fishing in an aluminum boat with no electronics! Forget all the hype, let’s prove you can still catch fish without all the bells and whistles! Jigs, crankbaits, and blade baits are all on the menu today and despite rain and snow, we catch a bunch of fish!

Modern electronics are incredibly useful tools, but they’re not a requirement for a fun day on the water. Listen closely as Matt explains his decision making throughout the day, the clues he uses to locate fish, and how he builds a pattern. Even as conditions go from bad to worse, he’s able to adapt, and keep catching fishing.

Below you’ll find links to the exact baits Matt used through the day. We’ve also included the rod and reel combos he landed his fish with. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

  1. Great video man. My pop spent a pretty penny on a live scope a few years ago but when we go crappie fishing we hardly use it because we’re just having a ton of fun and enjoying the time we get to spend together. That’s what this whole thing is all about and I think a lot of guys could benefit from remembering that. (And we still catch some slabs!)

  2. This is so refreshing to see! 🔥 With all the talk about forward-facing sonar, it’s awesome to watch a breakdown of how to read the water and find fish the old-school way. That jig and blade bait combo is deadly in these cold temps, too! I just covered how this week’s weather shifts are setting up the pre-spawn bite across the country—curious to see if the patterns you found match up with my forecast!

  3. Went out today here in East TN. Been raining for two days and the temp is in the low 40s, got off work early so I grabbed the rain gear and hit the lake. Not a single soul on the water, except me. Some of us are just crazy for these fish, I just moved here snd I wrangled my first two Tennessee bass!

  4. Thanks for doing this bare bones vid! It was a lot more interesting and informative watching you figure it out with actual intelligence, not AI. Every time you go sans electronics your credibility skyrockets! Too many anglers just have to have immediate gratification, but you showed fish can be found and caught in the worst conditions with a little effort. Very rewarding way to go! Keep it up!

  5. I’d love to see a tournament series like this. 2D sonar, no spot lock, no power poles. I don’t doubt today’s pros are great and talented anglers, but they definitely get a lot of help the old schoolers didn’t get.
