Thank you again. I tie that knot for years. My PB is 11.8 pound bass. Same knot you just showed. I retie a lot due to heavy cover.
Palomar is not good for fluoro as it breaks on hook sets. Use the Miller knot or double Pitzen. There is a lot of waste with the Palomar and the tag catches debris.
I like Roland Martins improved Palomar knot 🪢 and yes I totally agree…the best knot is the one you can tie the quickest and effortlessly!
I agree it's an easy knot to tie, I just wish you didn't have to "waste" so much line when you cut off the tag end. Of course I realize that 10-12 inches of line out of 150 yards on a baitcaster isn't that much, but it still bothers me lol.
I agree!
The Palomar knot and uni knots are my two go to knots.
I totally agree randy, the Palomar is the knot, always
I agree Randy. Keep it simple. Thanks
I like using the palomar knot with braid. Like you said very easy to tie. Thanks for sharing !
Palomar knot for braid and mono and Sandiego Jam for fluoro. I'll use a double Sandiego Jam if I'm using heavier fluoro and pitching or flipping.
Not sometimes, it will break if your pitching 15
I've heard not to use Palomar on Flourocarbon due to line cutting itself. Is there a line weight I should avoid Palomar on Flouro?
If I see one more person demonstrate this saying to double over your line and then feed that kinked line through the eye, I'm gonna scream. Just go through with the tag end and turn around and put the line back through the eye you just came through. Now you'll have 2 pieces of line on one side of the eye and, the loop end on the other side of the eye. One tip, after doing that step, make sure the two pieces of line aren't crossed in any way.Top line lined up with top line on the other side of the hook eye as well as bottom piece lined up with bottom piece on the other side of the eye. Now do your overhand knot. There will be basically zero friction when you go to cinch the knot this way.
The only time I have an issue with the palomar knot is, when I tie on a jerk bait. That loop coming over 9 hooks can be tough especially if it's windy and cold.
Along the same lines (no pun intended), my double uni knot I use to tie a fluorocarbon leader to my braid DOES NOT FAIL unless I get hung up on structure. Any knot is going to fail if you hook a tree, double uni or other!
Excellent video. The Palamar has been my knot of choice for years, also.
This know is all I have ever used. It works great. I only use straight braid or fluorocarbon based on Randy's advice. That tip increased my hookups and now I have less break offs.
Snell knot for punching? Loop knot for walking topwater baits? Love me some palomar, but I do snell for punching and loop knot for spook fishing. Works for me.
Great video, the palomar knot is the only knot I've been using for years. I use it on everything, it's a great knot. Thanks Randy have a great day
Improved clinch 51 yrs
Simple no problems.
Randy, what about Aaron‘s knot, or what you call the double Uni knot that’s the only knot I ever use because you said it was the best knot. And I have never broken that knot off ever!
