My GO-TO Rock Fishing Rig {BIG} RockFish Jetty Fishing ~ Oregon Coast Fishing

Another AMAZING day of Oregon Coast Fishing! I typically have a lot of luck when i’m jetty fishing at barview jetty. Today i’m using one of my favorite jetty fishing rigs, or rock fishing rigs. Granted you may find some smaller rockfish with this rock fishing setup, all of my largest black sea bass have come on this rig. Not only is it effective but it is a simple rock fishing setup for beginners. If you don’t know how to catch rockfish from shore in your area, check out the video fishing with swimbaits is simple. These rock fishing tips will work for any species and basically any area.

In this video i am again at Barview Jetty for some black sea bass fishing, since i was already going to be in the area for some winter steelhead fishing. There will be plenty more Oregon Coast Fishing From Shore as Spring gets underway. I am planning on making a long roadtrip to fish the coastline, hopefully making my way to California & Washington

  1. I switched to a dropper rig setup 5 years ago or so and haven’t lost any gear to a snag. Highly recommend. I use a 8’ lamiglas x11, and sprung for a shimano tranx 301. 30lb braid and typically a 4oz weight. Can drag that sucker up the rocks no prob. Sand shrimp for bait, wrap in spider silk and won’t come off. Herring if going for cod.
Love fishin the jetty’s! I’ve had the best luck with big cod off the Newport, but is more work and can be dangerous deep out on it. Seen some nasty rogue rollers

  2. Just found your channel, love the straight forward style you use and easy to follow teaching. Thanks for your service as well. Always happy to support a veteran. Headed to the south jetty in Newport tomorrow to try this out. God bless and keep up the good videos brother!

  3. Dude….you are living the dream. We vacation on the OR coast every year and I have just half hearted tried fishing….But this May I am taking my 17-year old son and some of his crew up there to do some whole hearted fishing. Been watching a ton of your videos, they are awesome. I know I could probably look it up, but for us land fisherman, could you explain 'slack tide'?

  4. Thank you for a really informative video! I must have read an article inspired by you because I bought a lot of that tackle and have rigs in my box, though, haven't caught anything yet. Tried jetties in Central California, which probably have very flat sandy bottoms. I imagine there are more rocks in the channel than flat off our beaches. I used to snorkel off of rocky points in Goleta CA (UCSB) and spearfish a bunch of rockfish. But now it is a Marine Reserve. Rockfish (Bass) like rocks! 😀

  5. I wish you'd stop refering to rockfish, as bass. They're NOT bass!
I was raised, somewhat south of here; and there were bass there; calico bass, kelp bass, sand bass, white sea bass, and black sea bass (up to 300 lbs.).
When I was a kid, we caught "rock cod", but in 1964, the designation, for the whole genus was re-named rock-fish.
I guess you didn't get the news.
I can't make it through your videos, because it makes me uncomfortable, when people pretend they know something, then put out videos that demonstrate that they don't know what they're talking about.

  6. I love Garabaldi, I have been fishing the jetty since I was 10, so 26 years now. Love that little store too, been looking forward to spending $20 on tackle in there since I was a kid too; not as much since my dad stopped paying, but still a joy.
