My Go-To Bass Lure for Exploring New Ponds

I only had a couple of hours before dark, so after work I decided to check out a pond I’d never fished before and see what I could find.

Whenever I’m exploring new water, I like to start with a few confidence baits and let the fish tell me what they want. I started the evening with a white paddle tail swimbait and managed a couple of quick bass, but the bite slowed down soon after.

That’s when I switched to my go-to bass lure — a Senko. From that point on, the fish started cooperating, and the evening turned into one of those fun after-work fishing sessions where almost every stop seemed to hold another bass.

One of the highlights was finding a piece of structure near sunset that reminded me of a spot from a previous trip. A few casts later, the bass confirmed my suspicion.

In just a couple of hours, I landed around 10 bass, including a solid 2.5-pounder, all while learning a brand-new pond.

It just goes to show you don’t need a boat or a secret fishing spot to find action—sometimes the best fishing is right in your own backyard.
