Nice! Keep having fun doing this (fishing AND sharing this here)! I would love to hear about the mental aspect of it. You mentioned your boater gave you good advices about this. What were they?
Being a guy who fish clear water: in these conditions, long cast, small and SILENT baits retrieved fast-ish. Rattle trap is generally too loud (rattle and vibration) for these conditions. Next time just try a simple soft plastic paddle tail. So simple, so effective to cover water.
