  1. I've called it a life jacket since I was 10 years old. But the more I hear personal flotation device that just sounds more professional. Very very good video. Turned 63 on the 12th and I'm trying to save up to get my first kayak. This video helped a lot! Thanks

  2. Always called it a life vest till I started kayak fishing couple years ago & now am use to saying pfd. I get on to my son all the time about it because he goes float tubing with friends & never wears one just attaches it to the tube

  3. Life jacket lol i have an onyx now i would like some type of jig holder in a pocket where you could throw you A little jig a big jig bladed jig or just whatever kind your using that day with just shoving them in a pocket and maybe a cool camo pattern like old school or something instead of colors or a camo out of colors

  4. Well, my non kayak buddy (boater) and I were on a small private lake. He looked over at me and said, "Are you not burnin' up in Hero Hauler?". From that point on, my vest is the Hero Hauler 😂. A feature that may not be practical but cool…. a built in hood in a zipper so I don't have to put on a jacket during rain…

  5. It’s always been a life jacket since I was a kid. My kids know wearing one on a kayak is not up for debate. A buddy (paddling one of my kayaks) wasn’t going to wear a life jacket on a trip one time. I told him that was fine & to put my boat back on the trailer. “You don’t have to be like that!” I told him, “You’re right but I won’t watch you drown this way”. He put the jacket on & we had a great trip. (last time we ever had that discussion)

  6. Grab the lifesavers…phrase we would say getting in the boat and now in kayaks..I would love to see an attached stretch cord whistle, the Velcro on the outside and some adjustable straps..currently wearing bass pro adult mesh gray lifesavers. Thanks Chad sending to my friend who just got a kayak!

  7. Mustard pfd, I call it the Tampon lol 😂 probably not that appropriate but yea lol that's what I call it. Features I would love on a pfd, something similar to a design of a flak jacket that has enough webbing to rig out everything from a canteen to an ifak. That would be legit.

  8. I use an Onyx AM24, always just called it a life jacket. I’m jealous of all the storage you have on your style of PFD, but I also love how lightweight mine is. I honestly forget I’m wearing it, half the time after I’m done fishing I get all the way home before I remember that I’m wearing it still. Always wear it, every time!

If I were to design one, I would have built-in gear tethers within the pockets on the front. Maybe partner with Rogue and a built in Protector inside a pocket for a phone? Also, storage for tournament ID cards/fishing license.

  9. Growing up, we called them Life Jackets. Now I call it a PFD. I had a friend flip a kayak in the diversion canal south of Houston and almost drown. He was wearing waders, he was exhausted from paddling a kayak that had a leak and was full of water, and he'd given his PFD to the son of our other friend Harry since the Harry had forgot to bring theirs. If I hadn't seen Devin flip and call it out, then raced over to help, he wouldn't have made it. When Harry and I got to him he was going under and there was terror in his eyes. We were able to keep his head above water and tow him and his kayak to shore before getting run over by a barge. After it was all over and we realized how close Devin had come to dying, we were all pretty shaken. The thought of having to look his wife in the eyes and tell her we'd lost her husband, the father of her daughter, well, it was horrifying. I told the whole group that day, I'm not wetting a paddle with any of you ever again if you aren't wearing a PFD.

  10. I call it a life jacket , just a rule I have if you don’t wear a life jacket I won’t go fishing with you in a kayak. I went with a coworker on his boat and I wore my life jacket the hole time he ask if I was scared of the water or couldn’t swim I explained to him if something happened I wanted to be prepared Better to have it on and not need it than to need it and not have it

  11. I grew up calling it a life jacket but have being using the term PFD since I started kayak fishing. I have a discontinued model of Magellan Outdoors from Academy but have been thinking about upgrading. However, in February 2022 I flipped my kayak and my head barely got wet. Considering I am 300 lbs, I have to say my opinion of my PFD has been enhanced. If I am on the kayak, the PFD is on me.

  12. I call my PFD my life saver. I wear 99% of the time. Only times i dont wear is when i forget it… i know i know😅

This may be a long shot but any chance you can buld a line cutter into the pfd you are releasing? Maybe even a built-in base for that cool orange line color you have. Anyways another great video chad

  13. What "budget" kayak brand would you say is the best? Id like to get my feet wet without breaking the bank but i also want to have some decent features and i like to stand and fish a good bit. Im not a big guy. 5'8 190 pounds. Thanks for any info

  14. I have an inflatable that's in pretty rough shape after over 8yrs of wearing. I'm leaning towards a stars pfd & not an inflatable. Recommendations on decent quality that doesn't get in way on your mind lower back leaning against seat?

  15. I call mine life jacket because that was what I was taught as a child. Didn't know the term PFD til few yrs ago really. I only have an auto inflatable but have been looking for a "real" life jacket I'm a bright color like red or orange. Want it easily seen if I was in the water and will feel safer with a regular vest style now that I am older. (60's) Deciding factor will be comfort and have pocket on the front large enough to fit my phone in the otterbox and tether. My cellphone otterbox is 9.41 x 5.47. Of can't find pocket at least that size will have to figure something else out.

  16. I take my grandsons kayak fishing. A I stress the life jacket. So I keep it simple. And just tell them that we can't get in the water without it. So I just call it life jacket.

  17. My little boy is 7 he always asks why I wear those big water jackets I call them the *Perfect Father Device* he giggles. But I feel if he sees me now in one, he will grow to understand the importance of it. From a father to a dad, it's just like buckling up in front of my boy in the car. I want to live to fish another day with him.

  18. I call it a life jacket. It is a Bass Pro. I am going to.upgrade this year. I was looking at Canoeacopia. I was also hoping to see you!
I was guilty of being a part timer on wearing one years ago. I decided one day to just wear it. I had some self talk about the seat belt history and how.i feel naked without it.
Keep doing what you are doing. Your videos are fun.

  19. A life jacket when I’m talking with the general public and a pfd when I’m talking to canoeist or kayakers. I’d like to see a place for a knife, a phone, an attachment spot for a light on the back, a little pocket for chapstick on one side and maybe a lighter on the other of the upper inside of the pfd would be cool. Most important make extended sizes ( bigger than xxl) and give it more floatation.

  20. I have two PFD's, "life jackets". I have a Kokatat and a Chinook. The problem I have is I love my Kokatat so much I have never even had the Chinook out on the water. I have a personal rule that if I am in my kayak, no matter how deep the water or calm the conditions are I have it on. It's non-negotiable. In other words, I don't ever want to be caught dead without it! Great video Chad, keep it up. I made it back from Panama yesterday. Ready to do some fishing.
