January is always tricky on Sam Rayburn, but you add in freezing temperatures and wind everyday in practice it becomes brutal. This week is no different and I’m sure wondering how it’s gonna unfold.

MY PROFILE:

I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn’t have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors.  I  have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey…it should be an honest and fun ride!

  1. Serious question, why did your co only catch one today? Were you scoping floaters over brush piles or doing something else? Just curious. IMHO a co can just as easily zero or catch a few or even limit out regardless what the boater is doing. I feel like scopers get the heat from cos when they shouldn’t all the time. Low fish catches happen for cos. Doesn’t matter how a guy is fishing. Sometimes cos can just suck too.

  2. I think you will do well in this tournament Todd. It will be what I call an “Instinct” pattern. Let the fish tell you what you need to be doing. Some of these youngbloods will try to force a pattern(FFS likely). You catch 1 big one, then replicate. Right up your alley with your experience level on Rayburn! Good luck!

  3. Wind keeps our lakes from locking up and you can idle through ice up to about an inch thick no problem. Once our lakes lock up you can catch bass from shallow grass through the ice so they definitely use it when the water is cold. Good to see you getting a little taste of what we do every fall. At ice out a lot of bass start going shallow even before you can get a boat in the water and you’d be surprised how active they can be with the water still in the 30’s and the lake still half covered with ice in the spring. I think it’s more about the temperature trend than the temperature.

  4. Glory!!! After so much struggles I now own a new house with an influx of $330,000.00 every month God has kept to his words,my family is happy again everything is finally falling into place. God bless America🇺🇸 🇺🇸
