MICRO CRANKS FOR BIG BASS

Using Micro Sized baits for bass has become a staple in clear water and heavily pressured waters. In this video I breakdown using the Shimano Macbeth 39F Crankbait which weighs in at 1/8 oz and is 39 mm or 1 9/16 inches in length. We fished Lake Erie in this video in July.
Rod: Shimano Expride 7′ Light
Reel: Shimano Stradic FL 1000
Mainline: Power Pro 5lb Braid
Leader – 8 lb Sunline FC Leader
Bait: Shimano Macbeth 39F in Bluegill color

  1. Saw you the International boat show on friday. great talk! you mentioned all this. glad you have a youtube video since i dont remember everything you said haha

When you are talking FC leader line, how much leader are you using?

  2. If you used micro cranks all of the time you would catch a ton of short fish, but when no other artificial bait works micro cranks are absolutely the way to go. You can dead stick plastics if you are sure you are around fish but micro cranks let you cover water and catch fish when they won't bite anything else.

  3. Mr.DeRose why is shimano putting carbon drags in there smaller finesse spinning reels? These drags are not up to par for light line applications as you know. I sent a sustain 2500 FJ and a twinpower 3000 XD back to tacklewarhouse because the drags were so jerky out of the box it was like they were already shot. Do the carbon drags get smoother when they are broke in? These drags are not an upgrade. I have sustain FG's that are smoother than smooth..

  4. Going to try this next weekend. I’ve been getting them on Erie the last couple weeks on drop shots but saw some bigger cruisers that wouldn’t eat, might take out my ultralight I use for crappie fishing.
