  1. 0:30 — I learned the hard way why you should not cast in parks.

Was casting for hours across several days at my local park, directly onto the grass and reeling back. Casting heavy saltwater lures with the hooks removed.

On the third day… SNAP! The grass had made thousands and thousands of micro-cuts to my braided line as I reeled it back in. The cuts finally damaged the 40# braided line enough to weaken it and the line snapped mid-air, sending my lure 80 yards farther downrange than I planned.

Thankfully I was always careful to cast away from people, pets, and cars, so nothing was injured. The bright blue and white Tady 45 surface iron stuck out in the green grass and was easy to find after some searching 😂

Moral of story: always practice casting on the water!

  2. I am the first to admit
my casting is terrible. Thanks for the bowling comparison because I bowl and that makes perfect sense! Where my hand is pointed on the follow through is where the ball goes. I guess I am odd because my bait caster is right handed and I cast with my left hand. I see a lot that are right handed and cast with the right hand then switch the rod to their left hand after the cast. I throw a ball right handed but can't cast right handed.🤷 I will employ your tips, thank you, Glenn
