My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/

I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

  1. I just saw on a different channel an angler fishing a "prototype" hover rig from Gambler. Hope this won't impact your earnings and you are "protected" from the predators out there.

  2. Had my rigs out a couple times and the action is ridiculous. I haven’t caught anything on them yet but anxiously awaiting the first fish on it. Same with the swimbait hooks, thrown them several times but no luck yet. I just received my 4/0 hooks today so I’m excited to get those on the water soon too

  3. I have to tell you I have yet to catch a lake fish on this. I am definitely not giving up. I like how it looks. I primarily fish Lake of the Ozarks and Table Rock. I have fished it often, especially if fishing is tough. I appreciate the tips. I’m determined to get the Hoover Rig to work.

  4. How do you fish those light baits in windy conditions? Where I live the wind is always at least 10 mph. A typical day is wind 10-15 with gust to 25-30 mph.

  5. Matt have you fished the hover rig on a rod with an extra fast tip? Wondering how much that would change the action of the bait. Especially with the little twitches you were doing on a slow retrieve

I bet a spunk Shad would be a great bait to use

  6. What has been the experience fishing a hover rig in water that is stained, say 1-2ft of visibility ? I haven’t tried it in stained water because it seems like a bait that relays on appealing to fish visually.

  7. What do you think about putting a chatterbait blade on your Hover Rigs? It could be amazing.
If the right size Hover Rigs with stout hooks come out I think they'll catch on for the saltwater crowd. They should be great for flounder. But they have to be able to be strong enough for the drag on 15 or 20 lb test. Some for 50 lb line would be cool for grouper and other big deep species too. Are molds available for making them? If there are molds and files you can just scale them up for bigger hooks. I'd love to help you expand to the saltwater, maybe the musky folks would be interested in stronger bigger Hover Rigs too.
