Bank fishing a pond in Vernon Hills, Illinois, I tested finesse vs reaction baits during some classic unpredictable spring conditions. The day started warm but quickly turned cold, windy, and rainy — making the bite a serious challenge.

Weather Conditions:
Warm to start, then dropped cold
Wind picked up heavy
Light rain rolled in

Water Clarity:
Approx. 3 feet visibility
Green-stained

Baits Fished:
Wacky Rig (Green Pumpkin w/ Chartreuse Tail) – 1 fish
White Chad-style Paddle Swimbait – No bites
Spinnerbait with red/bait skirt/Trailer Smoke Paddle Tail Chad and Orange/black skirt – 2 bass landed (2 lb & 3 lb)

Despite the grind, the spinnerbait came through when it mattered. This was a real test of patience and bait choice in tough early spring conditions.
