Lake Simcoe Bass Fishing | Fish’n Canada

Lake Simcoe is a beast of a lake, but it’s full of beast Smallmouth Bass as well. These were our high-hope targets. As most of you know, though, smallies can be ignorant, almost defiant little buggers. Catching them can be a chore.

I should add right now that this was one of the first trips we’ve made with our new GARMIN LAKEVU G3 ULTRA CANADA mapping cards. What an improvement over anything we’ve used in the past. Although we pretty much knew where we wanted to fish, we were enamoured with this new layout of the lake in front of our eyes.

One of Canada’s longest-running fishing shows, Fish’n Canada travels from coast to coast in search of trophy fishing opportunities. First started by brothers Angelo and Reno Viola in 1986, The Fish’n Canada Show has been on the air for over 30 years. Today, Angelo is joined by lifelong fishing buddy, Peter Bowman, and the pair continue to travel across Canada educating anglers using the experience they’ve gained over the years

  1. So glad you weren’t fishing bass on their nests. Thank you.
Just so people understand what I mean….
It is a truly un-ethical and un-Sportsman-like to sight fish and catch bass while they are guarding their nests, and this is often what is happening at that time of year. REGARDLESS of whether it is within days or a week or 2 of when bass season opens.
Bass will guard their nests with eggs and fry in the vicinity of their nests and will chase away predators, including lures, and baits. In the 5 minutes the bass are caught, fought and released a lot can happen. Gobies can completely strip the nest of all eggs and or young fry. John Whyte made an excellent video about this for those interested to see what can happen.
