The summer evening bite at Lake Perris made me work for every fish on this trip.

I got on the water after work around 3 PM and started by targeting the deeper water that had been producing for me recently. This time, that pattern wasn’t happening. I worked the entire south bank without a bite and went more than two hours before finally putting my first fish in the boat.

Eventually, I abandoned the deeper bite and moved shallow into the southeast corner, where I found a few bass sitting in about 4 feet of water. From there, I continued along the east bank behind the trees. Even that stretch was slow until the final 100 yards, where I finally started putting together some numbers.

I finished the evening with 10 bass. The quality wasn’t there, but after such a rough start, I’ll gladly take the numbers.
