Lake of the Ozarks Bass Fishing – 9 Apr 2026 | Fishing report
We spent just over 7 hours on the water today at Lake of the Ozarks and ended up catching 43 bass, with 5 keepers going 9.1 pounds total. Water temperature was sitting right at 60 degrees, with mostly sunny skies and a pretty steady south wind around 14 mph, gusting up to 23. Water had some stain to it, which played a big role in how the fish were positioned and what they would commit to.
This was one of those classic early pre-spawn days where the numbers were there, but you had to sort through a lot of smaller fish to find quality. Most of the fish were relating to the bank, and nearly everything we caught came shallow, working shoreline structure with wind blowing in. The wind definitely helped position fish and made certain stretches much more productive.
The standout bait by far was a jerkbait in a Pro Blue color. That bait accounted for 27 of the 43 fish and produced 4 of the 5 keepers. It wasn’t even close, the jerkbait bite dominated the day. The combination of the stained water, wind, and sun seemed to set up perfectly for that presentation. A steady cadence with short pauses was getting bit consistently, especially along windblown banks.
We also caught fish on a white swimbait, which produced 12 fish but only one keeper. It was a good search bait and helped pick up numbers, but it just didn’t produce the quality like the jerkbait did. A glimmer/blue swimbait and a PBJ 5-inch worm picked up a few extra fish, but they were more of a secondary pattern and didn’t contribute much to the overall weight.
Most of the better fish came later in the day as conditions stabilized and the sun got higher. Even with good numbers, it was clear the bigger fish are still staging and not fully committed yet. Everything points to that bite getting better as we move further into the spawn.
Overall, it was a solid day with a lot of action, and a good reminder that when you’ve got wind, stained water, and that 58–62 degree range, a jerkbait can absolutely take over on Lake of the Ozarks.
