Lake of the Ozarks Bass Fishing – 25 May 2026 | Fishing report

We fished Lake of the Ozarks on 25 May 2026, launching out of the Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area. We started at 0730 and finished around 1500. Overall, it was a slower day, but we still managed to put 15 fish in the boat with 3 keepers. Our best five went 5.3 pounds, and the big bass of the day was 2.13 pounds.

We started near LORA and worked the bank down past the pavilion. I began the morning throwing a topwater popper but did not get any bites, so I switched to a white swimbait and caught the first two fish of the day. Billy added a few more on a chartreuse and black square bill crankbait.

After that, we moved toward the lily pads near Public Beach #1, but the water got very muddy and had a lot of debris from the storms the night before. We did not get bit around the pads. We also tried the bluff walls across the Glaize from the lily pads and worked down toward Coakley Hollow, but that area did not produce either.

From there, we moved to McClain Point and fished docks and banks around the point. We picked up a couple fish around the docks and one more on the bank, but the bite was still slow.

One thing we wanted to test today was the difference between a weightless wacky rig and a weighted wacky rig. I started with the weightless setup, then switched to a weighted hook around noon. The weighted setup definitely did better. The weightless PBJ worm caught a few fish early, including one keeper, but the weighted green pumpkin worm produced the better bites later in the day, including the 2.13-pound big bass.

Around 1300, we moved to the point near PB2 and worked our way toward Pa He Tsi Cove. That turned out to be the best move of the day. Almost as soon as we pulled up on the point, we caught the big bass of the day. That area gave us the best afternoon bite and helped confirm that the weighted wacky rig was the better presentation in those conditions.

The main takeaway from this trip was that the fish were still relating to the bank, but they were not very aggressive. The stained water was fishable, but the muddier water with debris seemed to hurt the bite. The weighted 5-inch worm, especially in green pumpkin, was the best producer once the day got tougher.
