Tough Fall Bite! 17 Bass & 2 Keepers | Lake of the Ozarks | October 21, 2026

Some days, you have to work for them! Billy and I spent six hours fishing the Shawnee Bend area of Lake of the Ozarks, picking up 17 bass but finding only two keepers. Long stretches between bites made this a tougher trip than our last few outings.

The white swimbait and 5-inch PBJ worm tied with seven bass each, but the PBJ worm delivered both keepers: a 2.53-pound largemouth along a bank and a 2-pound bass off a bluff wall. Those two fish gave us a keeper bag of 4.53 pounds.

🎣 TRIP CONDITIONS & RESULTS
• Date: October 21, 2026
• Location: Lake of the Ozarks, Shawnee Bend
• Time on the water: 8:45 a.m.–2:45 p.m.
• Duration: 6 hours
• Water temperature: 68°F
• Air temperature: 58–74°F
• Sky: Partly cloudy
• Wind: South at approximately 4 mph
• Water: Stained
• Total bass: 17
• Keepers: 2
• Keeper bag: 4.53 pounds
• Biggest bass: Mark’s 2.53-pound largemouth

🎣 WHAT WORKED
• 5-inch PBJ worm: 7 bass, including both keepers.
• White swimbait: 7 bass.
• Small black Whopper Plopper: 2 bass.
• 5-inch dark green pumpkin/amber worm: 1 bass.

The day started slowly. My first bass came on the Whopper Plopper at 9:31 a.m., 46 minutes after we started. Another hit two minutes later, but that quick pair didn’t turn into a steady topwater bite.

The PBJ worm gave us our best stretch of quality. After two smaller dock fish at 11:13 and 11:15, I caught the day’s biggest bass at 11:25 along a bank. Our second keeper came at 12:38 off a bluff wall, with Billy also catching a swimbait bass at that same time.

White swimbaits produced around docks, breakwaters, a bluff wall, and a bank, but none reached keeper size. Three breakwater fish between 1:32 and 1:39 gave us a brief afternoon flurry.

We caught six bass around boat docks, five along banks, three at breakwaters, two off bluff walls, and one along a dock walkway. We found fish in several types of cover, but putting together a keeper bite was the challenge.

Not every fishing report comes with a big bag! Come along for an honest look at a tough fall day and the baits that still put fish in the boat.
