Lake Michigan smallmouth bass fishing – talk about having a blast with smallmouth bass! Late May and early June are prime times to sight fish for Southern Lake Michigan smallmouth bass. They are shallow spawning.
They spawn in rocky areas that warm up earliest. Most fish were bedding smallmouth bass. Some were caught off their beds, but others were caught fan casting.

I got a 4 lbs lunker last week while salmon fishing from shore it was incredible, I’ve fished the lakefront of Chicago over 35 yrs and never caught a bass.

So i live about 2 hours from the lake in Indiana and i want to make a daily trip but i have no idea where to start. I can only see two Marinas on in Michigan City and one in Portage. Do you just fish the sandy shores or is there rocky areas and fish habitat around? Any tips?
Cool video. I haven't been out in that area of the lake for a few years, but there's some hoss smallies out there. You definitely have to respect the big lakes, they'll take you out if you don't.
