The Friday before the THSBA state tournament was the event’s official prefish day. Lake Athens is on the way the tournament destination, Lake Palestine. I talked dad into making a quick stop to fish for a few largemouth bass. It was time well spent as I caught a good number of fish. I never really left the first spot I tried. I used a hover rig the whole time. The fish bit immediately and never stopped. Lake Athens is one of those hidden gems of a lake. It is a slot lake which means most of the fish you will catch is in the slot range which are illegal to keep. The slot for this lake is any black bass 14′ to 21′. It makes for a fine fishery and its local so quick trips are easily arranged. This little stop to fish helped me gain confidence going into the state tournament. I hope you enjoy this one.
Fish ON!
