Kayak Bass Fishing Tournament on Lake Delhi (Maquoketa River) with Iowa Kayak Anglers Club

Kayak bass fishing tournament season is finally here. This is the first tournament in the bass fishing series put on by the Iowa kayak anglers. Conditions are pre-spawn with water temps near the 60 degree mark. The bass fishing was really tough and a limit wasn’t easy to come by.

In pre-fishing I found a school of bass relating to rock on the end of a boat ramp and decided that would be the pattern that I fished for the tournament. All of my bass in the tournament came fishing hard rock/concrete structure with either a crankbait or a chatterbait. With this strategy also came several nice bonus Kayak walleyes.
Although I managed a limit of bass with my 5th fish coming right at the end of fishing hours, I wasn’t able to find a big one to push me into the top of the field. Congrats to the anglers who were able to find that kicker.

The next tournament video coming up will be with the All American Kayak Series at Lake Okoboji. Stay tuned…

  1. Great Video, I fish up there all the time, (crappies and catfish mostly). Actually at one point you were fishing just down from my parent's place. Nice to see the walleyes back in there, I know they weren't what you wanted to see that day though.

  2. I have some free days next week and want to take my hobie up there to spend a few days just fishing… This place looks pretty nice. I'll have to track down a camp ground or cabin on this lake.
