Use mono, I do braid to leader, and don’t set too hard on those treble baits, just keep your hooks sharp lean in to em and keep em pined. Looks like you were figuring it out as you went along.

I can’t believe that fish was able to shake those trebles on a new bait like that out so easy, especially when you whacked him hard enough to break off. Bass are wild.
Love my wade hogg had it custom painted to a baby bass from firetiger color a favorite for sure very hard to get which is why I got a firetiger color I fish clear water would have sucked to lose that as hard as they are to get Great Video and what a beautiful river Cheers!! :))
