Jika Rig for Big Bass with Z-Man CreatureZ
Z-Man CreatureZ? What on earth is that? There’s not a single YouTube video featuring this now obsolete lure…wow, it just proves that you should never count out relics from the past! This 6 September 2017 adventure was the first time I used a home-made Jika Rig. Some newer Z-Man lures (Big TRD, Turbo CrawZ) caught fish, but the star was the now obsolete CreatureZ. The Jika Rig has its origin in Japan and has been around since circa 2011 in the US. It isn’t difficult to make a Jika Rig: split ring pliers, split ring (1 or 2), EWG hook (3-4/0) and a bell or other weight. The Jika Rig is a very versatile rig that can be fished in shallow or deep water. It is excellent about avoiding hang ups. Retrieves can vary to match what the fish want: from a Ned Rig-like lift-glide-drop to a slow drag or even a faster retrieve that scoots the lure along the bottom. In this video, the Z-Man Turbo CrawZ caught the most fish as it was slowly crawled along the rocky bottom. The biggest bass was a 22+ inch monster that grabbed a Z-Man CreatureZ hopping along the bottom in about 20 ft of water. Although the CreatureZ lure is no longer available, the new for 2018 Z-Man Boar HogZ look to be equally deadly. Enjoy the show!
