  1. I've been kayak fishing for four years, no tournament stuff for me, I fish to relax and enjoy my time at the lake. It's a cheap and effective way to get out on the water. Plus, I can go places you can't in an 80K boat.

  2. I don't fish for bass but I fish out of a kayak often in the Chesapeake Bay. Actually I caught a bunch of bass today, black sea bass. It's a pretty good way for a poor dude to get out on the water. It's also great exercise. But it's also super frustrating at times. Between the wind and tide it's difficult to stay in position.
I would definitely prefer to have a bigger boat with an engine but I can't afford it right now. So if I want access to fish I have to paddle to find them. It's great and it sucks, equally I'd say. Tackle storage and organization is always a hassle for me. But when I hook a redfish and I get pulled around the marsh a little it's all worth the struggle. Or when I jug up a bunch of flounder off bridge pilings. I'd much rather be able to stand up and walk around the deck of a real boat.

  3. Kayak fishing is hard. Takes energy to cover water, wind blows you around all the time, harder to set hooks and fish longer rods in the yak. My next goal is just a small Jon boat with a 9.9. My favorite fishing spot of all time is kayak only. It’s a small desert river. That will always demand the yak, but I’m getting older, and I want to cover more and bigger water. Definitely going with the Jon next. Plus, Jon boats are the same price or less than a yak, can still store it flipped over against a wall so they don’t take up too much space

  4. You'd become a better boat angler after spedong some time in a kayak. Not being able to cover ground really changes the way you prep for tournaments. It takes a lot more map study and research.

  5. I have a bass boat. Have owned several, I started kayak fishing 8 years ago. I really like the kayak better now. Why. Way easier to get on the water. I want to fish. Not dick around with the boat. I catch more fish. I break down smaller areas. Can hear nature better. Feel nature deeper. Think of going through the woods on an ATV. Then go on foot on the same trail. You see more. It looks completely different. By the way. They are not wobbly. The new fishing kayaks are very stable. That is a case of not knowing what you’re talking about. Saying you don’t like something. Before you have tried it. It pretty ridiculous. By the way I am your age. So 62 is not too old to get started.

  6. I got a cheap kayak set up and its a great way to learn how to fish. I learned how to use a fish finder and practiced new techniques this year. Kayak fishing is good for shore anglers that want to do more, without spending too much. I do agree though, it is boring! Nothing's worse than having to paddle back to the boat launch after getting skunked lol.

  7. Well Randy, as someone who has bass fished from a kayak for 35 years I can understand why you would not fare well in a kayak. First, you have to be in shape to kayak fish. Getting your kayak in and out of those special out of the way places is strenuous. If your kayak is human powered (pedal or paddle) as it should be that is also exercise that an older gentlemen such as yourself should not undertake without first undergoing a full physical with your general practitioner. Kayak fishing requires "outdoor instincts", the kind that are not developed by screaming down the lake at 50mph. Kayak fisherman have to take their clues from nature and not become completely dependent on an array of fishfinders at the wheel and on the front deck. By the way, I am totally messin with you and you should absolutely borrow a kayak and give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.

  8. I fish from a kayak in my local river 4 times a week. I used to wade the river then invested in a kayak. It was the best money I ever spent. $299. I have access to the entire river now. Im 22 bass away from catching 500 this year. There are some challenges. Wind can be the major factor. I still love it though! Its starting to get cold and soon it will be winter. idk what I will do with myself. Watch fishing vids and go through withdrawal. 😂

  9. I am blown away at the technology on board kayaks. Power poles, lithium batteries, trolling motors that will run 8 mph, a dozen rods, net, giant tackle box. All kinds of different big screen fish finders. You got to have a trailer to haul it around. Why not spend a little bit more and have a real boat.

  10. I’ve kayak fished for the last three years. I’ve fished bass tournaments and salt water tournaments in Grand Isle, La. I love the simplicity of it. I’m a minimalist when i fish. I primarily fish a decent sized lake. Last month I started fishing creeks that have too many deadfall’s for a boat and motor. Not all kayaks are wobbly.
