One of the biggest reasons guys struggle to fish a swimbait is because they start by throwing big swimbaits that get very little bites in the first part. You should really fish a swimbait that gets a lot of bites in order to gain confidence in it before stepping up in size.

Another thing that

BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

  1. I make my own baits. I have a 5.6” prey bait I’m going to start making. I know you said clear water is best, slightly stained is ok. Here near lake Houston, we have dirty water. 6” or less visibility in a lot of areas. Would a black swimbait work in this area? Night time?

  2. The magdraft is a terrible swimbait. No action, burns out easy, and bottom rigged trebles are terrible. You don't need an expensive rod or reel for swimbaits. I've thrown heavy weights with many rod and reel setups and nothing has been better than my 6'6 Daiwa moderate/fast with a laguna 4500. I've pulled 30lb+ stingrays on top of of those weights and and never had an issue. With heavy swimbaits you want a MH rod with a fast/extra fast tip, something like a 85/15 or 90/10. The fast tip allows for better casts in tighter areas by storing more energy in the rod tip and a better feel for the bait in the water. If you want to do it cheap, get a Penn Fierce 3 for $60 right now and remove the automatic bail close mechanism under the spool. It's more than enough for any swimbait on the market.

  3. I throw the Magdraft and 4.8 Kytec on 7ft carbon fiber spinning rod from Ugly Stik med/fast $40.00 and a $40.00 reel with 15lb power pro!! It's a blast with being able to spinning gear on some of those "starter swimbaits" especially if your on a budget.

  4. I really love fishing but have a lot of trouble with bass. I mostly fish for cats and have good luck. I'm on the verge of just saying "screw it" and giving up on bass.

  5. I'm jumping in next season on the 6" magdraft. I see it weighs 1 and 1/4 ounces, and it is tough finding a MH that reaches that 1 and 1/4 weight. I find more times than not that a rod struggles to achieve the "listed" upper range for lure weight. I noticed during the video the black rod with blue trim and followed up on it. I'm not sure but seems it is an Okuma TCS "a" series rod of theirs. The one that is listed for swimbait/frog is a 7'3 Heavy power, fast action, rated for 1/4 to 2 oz. lure weights. I've had a couple Okuma rods and they've been pretty decent. Would you say this would be a good match for the magdraft, although rated for a heavier bait as well? A great video (as you never disappoint), and I would much be interested in and grateful for a video on your coffee stirrer walk-through in rigging the 5.8' keitech fat through-line style.

  6. Me sitting here with my 8:2:1 shimano 😬 I noticed how much slower I had to reel in these baits because of my gear ratio. It was much easier with my 5:6:1 spinning reel

  7. Solid informative video Tyler. Well presented and to the point. You’re a good teacher. Thanks for sharing your knowledge & experience. Continued success to you & your family. I especially appreciate this video b/c I’m new to larger swim-baits and glides.

  8. You hand out the greatest fishing facts available. I cannot possible express how grateful I am to have a chance to hear your input. You are concise, no riff-raff non sense. Pure fishing intel. Thanks so much Ty, it is greatly appreciated. If you would, could you maybe cover musky, and/or pike? I’m in an area of Ontario that is just plum full of these gators, and would love your input. Regards, Cam.

  9. Agreed, idk why all these guys through 6" magdrafts or swimbaits on 20lb. I've been fishing magdrafts for couple years now & I use 14lb floro & it has really good action & I don't break them off

  10. OH…if you can send me a cap, better send me one for my 9yr old grandson, he even has his own matching fishing jersey to match mine. Boat been busted, apparently when someone sales you a $18K bass boat thats supposedly lake & tourn ready. Means just the opposite, havent been able to fish out of it since purchased in Aug. 2021.. so every dime I get extra cheddar it goes into parts & repairs. Which I also found when you pay a big, fancy boat repair shop $3k to try make it stay running with new fuel pump, doesnt mean they know what they're doin & it'll run when told its ready to pick up. Thank you & I need to do a video on what to check & look for when buyin a boat, & how to check which marine shops to trust with your high dollar investment?🤨 I didnt know any of this, Im old school; was taught everything was built on trust of a man word & handshake. Apparently not nowdays..so no cheddar for gear or repairs, which luckly my dad taught me at early age to be my own mechanic. Except none of it was marine topics..😳

  11. Bill Dance had a show not to long ago bout adding a 4 single size hook where a treble factory hook was to help with skipping & weedless. It has been a lethal 8" shad lure I use many times now when fishing weed, limb & lay down, docks & lilly areas. I watch your feed every chance I get, & use all your tips & tricks. Thanks

  12. Can you give me some device? It cold in Michigan and I will be fishing all next week. My lake is barely 40. Any tips? I watch your videos all the time but this time I just want a little advice. I’m not that bad. Use a lot. Was just curious

  13. Great video Tyler. I am going to start using the swimbaits more this year. Could you do a video on how to rig the boot tail using a coffee stir? God Bless.

  14. i had 3 bites and caught two 3 pounders on an 8 inch glide yesterday. even though the fish weren't big it was the 1st time all my bites came exactly when i was expecting to get bit. definitely a huge boost of confidence.

  15. Great video. Do you fish the freestyle? I haven't had as much luck with it. Any tips? Unrelated: I fished the Gilly today and found the nose hook takes longer to sink and has to fish slow to stay upright. The 5/O screwlock hook thru that bottom groove was awesome. It gets down faster and fishes upright really well. I let it sink reeled a bit and let it dive, reeled and let it dive. I got a nice bite, set the hook and didn't have drag set, swung over my shoulder and hit a tree. I lost the fish but gained confidence in that hook set up and start stop retrieve. I had to stop when my guides started icing up which causes a handful of awful outcomes. Is there anything worse than swinging on a fish with no drag? I hate myself!! Great tips on Gilly set ups. Just wanted to say thanks. A nail weight will improve that nose hook. Thoughts on freestyle appreciated. Great channel bud!!!
